Missing zap smith's WE DID PORN, which is a pretty funny and fatty and amusing picture of the apt porn industry from an outsiders POV. Plus, drawings.

Zak Smith, that is.

Whelk, "Barely Legal Whores" is an excerpt from WE DID PORN.

And ummm I'm not reading all of these or anything...

Apologizes, I was skimming.

Why didn't my high school counsellor tell me professional porn reviewing was a career path? Surely the aptitude tests showed my skills. I feel my school let me down!

So I queued upthe Tyra Banks episode with Sasha Grey that the article cleverly talks about, and the link that comes up is the feed for AntiPornographyBlog, which interrupts the feed every second to contradict / enlighten us with absolutely ridiculous comments.

Just when you think Tyra's over the top shame game is bad.

Hey, me too! And, yeah, those annotations are sort of nuts.

If you want to go really long-form (and offline) I quite liked Legs McNeil's The Other Hollywood: An Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Film Industry.

Sorry, I only read longform.org for the pictures.

I don't know about porn, but I am totally addicted to longform.org. That site is just freaking awesome; really great articles from now and the past, stretching back into the 60s. I've been reading all kinds of things there rabidly for the past few weeks now.

Ditto, koeselitz. Hand-picked examples of the best writing form there is, in one simple, no-bullshit place. It's my go-to site when I'm in the mood for something interesting and thoughtful.

Well, that was rather depressing. Sometimes you read an interview with like Nina Hartley or somebody and you think, sure large parts of the industry totally fucked up but there's ways to make it in that biz without destroying your soul. And then you read a bunch of these in a row and you're like, "Sadly, you are incorrect."

Also, the James Deen kid in Breslin's piece has a blog. He likes to nick salt and pepper shakers.

I had heard of longform.org before, but hadn't taken a look until now. It's a bit hit and miss, which is maybe more of a feature than a bug. And the widely varying formatting of the pieces ends up being way more irritating than I had expected.

Forktine: “And the widely varying formatting of the pieces ends up being way more irritating than I had expected.”

Yeah, I read all that stuff on InstaPaper, so I guess I don't notice that. Readability is supposed to be pretty good, too. longform.org is pretty much designed to be used in conjunction with one of those kinds of services, I think.

Is this something I'd have to ejaculate into a tubesock several times daily to know about?

Completely agree, koeselitz. I've created at least one fpp from content found on longform, and often spot content there after I've seen it on MeFi. It's one of my favorite "read every day" sites.

Who else here thinks that Zap Smith should be the Whelk's porn name?

suburban dads can offhandedly suggest anal sex to their bethonged, waxed wives

I missed the first moon landing by a year, but I'd wager plenty of men throughout history would be equally impressed at the age we now live in.

Senor Cardgage: other acceptable substrates include napkins, paper towels, facial tissue, the toilet, and yo momma. Not literally your mother, but the proverbial yo momma.
