The Boys Are Back in Heaven. SLVimeo. An excellent mashup depicting Phil Lynnot of Thin Lizzy fronting the Pixies.

That's how you do a mashup. Well done. The guitar mix is great.

Also, the Song to the Sigur video is pretty sweet.

That is really well done, especially the video.

One of the basic laws of the universe is: Anything with Kim Deal is good.

This works and all that, still I can't help thinking this is doing it backwards. If you want to take the best parts of both bands you take the guitar riffs from Thin Lizzy and the vocals and lyrics from Frank Black and Kim Deal.

Lynnot ?

At least I spelled it right in the tags.

If man is five and the devil is six then this mashup is really hard to wrap my head around. I think it's awesome but my brain refuses to not play two songs simultaneously. Really cool though.

I agree with hypersloth- I've been listening to doolittle now for over 18 years. I went down on a girl for the first time to that song and so hearing it any other way was just... not right, but not in a bad way.

God, I hate mashups. This one is good, though.

Another mashup I had a lot of trouble wrapping my head around in much the same vein: Easy Heaven.

Wow you go down on a girl every time you hear that song?

I guess I'd take any excuse to share the Mountain Goats cover of The Boys are Back in Town so there you go.

(loved the mashup too)

I love It's Gigantic (Pixies v Run DMC).

I've heard that song so many times over the years that I actually think I prefer this version. It gives the song a really different edge. Thanks for posting this.

Wow. I did not expect that. I was certain that the creative well of mashups had run dry long ago. This disproves that completely.

Moving and strange and fits together perfectly, oddly enough.

I'm diggin' it. Thanks for reminding me of the ultimate 70's mid-summer song, "the boys are back, the boy's are back.

I'm far more familiar with the Pixies song than the Thin Lizzy, which I know in a heard-it-on-the-radio-a-million-times-but-never-really-paid-attention sort of way. Can someone tell me: Are the whispering and the guitar solo from "The Boys Are Back In Town"? It almsot sounds like they may have been added after the fact (the whispering especially).

Oh, and, this is definitely one of the better mash-ups I've heard. Thanks for posting!

Yeah, and that's what really puts this over the top - pulling out these elements of Thin Lizzy that sound like something the Pixies would have done.

Thanks, anazgnos. That's crazy.

Joy Division + Nancy Sinatra = Nancy Joy

NSFW.

And while on a technical level this is pretty impressive - he obviously had access to fully isolated multitrack elements (leaked from the Rock Band game, I wonder? I know some of the Doolittle multitracks circulated for that reason) and I'm sure massaging the Lizzy tracks into place took a lot of finesse and elbow grease, but 90% of the effect is just from how sheerly well the two songs turned out to complement each other tonally, emotionally and otherwise.
