In the nine years since its last appearance in the blue*, Taquitos.net has grown to more than 5,000 snack reviews.

The site correctly identifies Tim's Cascade Style Hot Jalapeño Seasoned Potato Chips as the best potato chip ever.

I... I... I had no idea that there were so many varieties of alcohol-themed chips.

Fuckin' A, snacks.

Also, given how many categories of flavored chips are that I wouldn't ever want to try on a dare, I was amused to see that there was also an "unusual flavors" category. I thought it was superfluous. But as it turns out, no. It's not.

What, no Trader Joe's Lime and Chili Cashews? This is a serious omission.

Eh, a mile wide and an inch deep. For a truly thorough snaxamination, you'll want Mike and Tom Eat Snacks.

I'm sitting here right now, disappointed, after returning from 7-11 around the corner, and finding that they no longer carry Andy Capp brand spicy fried pork rinds. Damn. They had them just a few months ago.

Turns out that part of getting to 5,000 reviews is being willing to review anything. To wit, the review of "Dried Black Fungus": I thought this was a snack, based on the colorful bag it came in. After trying it, not so sure, and we've since gotten a couple of emails telling us that it's supposed to be used for cooking... Only one of our tasters was adventurous enough to keep chewing and swallow it. He said it didn't really taste like much of anything.

They don't have the discontinued-in-the-early-90's Keebler Chachos wheat tortilla chips. So, not comprehensive!

Those were so good, and nicely complemented crystal pepsi.

I bought a bag of these at a decrepit supermarket called Food World in Bridgeport some years back for 99 cents. They were damned tasty. With most food, the more you pay, the better quality you get, but oddly not with potato chips. The cheap stuff is generaly the tastiest.

There are 39 different varieties of pickle chips. Thirty-nine.

My knees are a bit wobbly.

These were fucking delicious as well, but I haven't seen them in a while, sadly.

From Jonmc, in the original thread : "Zapps Cajun Crawtators flavor are the best damn chips in the world. Although where they get the marine flavor is a mystery as there's no "crawfish extract" listed in the ingredients."

Toquitos.net : "Taste: These are pretty good. They're not terribly spicy, but they're quite flavorful, with good cajun taste. ... Trivia: That new search engine "Google" won't find this site when people search for "Zapps" (without the apostrophe) unless we spell it Zapps."

A younger me loved a girl. She was into macrobiotic food and so, so was I. Then she told me that she was going to the Dominican Republic to be a musician at Casa De Campo. We drove to the Mets Motel in Queens.

There we bought Andy Capps Fries. And had a bit of the beer. And we made love forever.

And had Andy Capps and water for breakfast.

When humanity is threatened with annihilation from an implacable alien threat and I am elected spokesperson to plead for the salvation of our species, I shall stand before that cruel alien presence, I shall look it in its photonic receptors, and I shall say, "We invented dill pickle flavored potato chips. Have you tried them? They're pretty fucking awesome."

And humanity will be saved.

They don't seem to have reviewed Bamba, Israel's national snack food. I remember walking through Kathmandu and seeing huge bags (like: suitcase-sized) of local knock-offs for sale, presumably made for the tourist trade.

5,000 snack reviews ... and no Gold Rush Popcorn, the greatest snack ever invented in the history of the world? Odd. (Also, no circus peanuts?)

"We invented dill pickle flavored potato chips. Have you tried them? They're pretty fucking awesome."

Oh yeah. Grippo's. I give them semi-props there.
