Public Radio Remix

Do you like great radio storytelling? Looking for a way to find it without having to work hard for it? Check out Public Radio Remix. The stories go far beyond your typical NPR fare. There's a more definitive list of all the segments Remix has purchased in the past year, for those who like that kind of thing. Or you can glance at their blog for more indepth discussion of new additions and programming choices. [WARNING: All pages have auto-play streaming sound.]

PRX has helped develop software that randomly shuffles the order of programs in a series of playlists. Over the course of most hours listeners hear fresh combinations of programs and pieces (we try to insure that no three pieces will be adjacent in any six hour period) in a true Remix. Newer content –about 10 hours a week — in the playlists get a more frequent play as older programs and pieces cycle out.

I discovered PRX on my XM radio. It's a lot of fun for long solo car trips.

PRX made the This American Life app. That in itself paid for the phone. I love PRX.

Just a quick programming note: PRX is the Public Radio Exchange. Public Radio Remix is a service of, and related to, but not congruent with PRX.

I've loved Remix for a while now. Its creator, Roman Mars, makes his own show about design called 99% Invisible (previously) and is a superb producer in his own right.

This is cool!

...that's what I would have said if I could find any kind of podcast, download, or non-streaming option for these programs.

What channel?

Public Radio Remix is channel 123 on XM. You can find a full list of ways to listen to Remix here.

Well, you didn't look very hard, did you?

If you click around on the programming pages for Public Radio Remix, you'll find there are a lot of links which lead you to the individual program websites, most of which have download options for their episodes. I'm not going to do the work for you, but I will give you the Featured Programming page at Remix (which is also linked in the FPP), and you can click through to the different program websites from there.

Thanks for the clarification, hippybear. I've always just kind of thought of them as the same thing and Lo, they are not! :)
And thanks to JLovebomb for the heads up about the TAL app. Good times!

Public Radio Remix is, by the way, programmed by the brilliant public radio producer Roman Mars, who hosts and produces the wonderful design show 99% Invisible.
