Somebody needs to pay a whole lot less attention to that horrid brat in the green shirt that hates everything.

I was going to note how douchebaggy the green t-shirt kid is, but it was already the first response. I think these videos would be much more effective without him, because he just comes off as disingenuous, trying too hard.

The actual kids' reactions are good, the horrible chalk-on-blackboard intertitles and music and whatnot, not so much.

FYI, William is the Mefite.

Me personally, I could do with a little less Lia.

Also, 7-year old Sammie looks so much like my little sister looked at that age. It's uncanny!

Can you tell I've been watching these obsessively for days? I have.

A ten year-old is trying too hard? He's a fucking ten year-old. Yay for being catty about children I guess?

So this is where we react to Benny and Rafi Fine's videos of kids reacting to Rebecca Black Charlie Sheen?
OK. I am against this.

Huh, that's weird. At least in the Keyboard Cat video, at least 90% of the time, they filmed boys in a blue room, and girls in a pink room.

That green shirted dude really needs to hook up with the hipster girl and complain about EVERYTHING.

It would be adorable, in other news, I have grated my ears off.

I'm a big fan of these. I watched a ton one night. Morgan is pretty hilarious, too. William's great! They're all child actors, btw. Explains why they're so precocious.

Metafilter: gets drunk half the time like Lindsey Lohan... pwn3ed!

But that kid IS trying way too hard!

One thing I will say is that it is pretty clear that the children know what the producers want them to feel about things and are playing up that opinion.

Did he really say something about Gaddafi?!?

Kids that young say "pwned"? Recent changes in the English language are not coming from where I would have predicted.

I didn't know the kids were actors; it certainly explains a lot, especially in William's case. He is totally hamming it up. I love the little girl with the bangs -- mostly because she really acts like a child. Do you like that little flip that she did? Cute, not pretentious.

One of my favorite Morgan moments is in the Rebecca Black "Friday" video. When the rapper comes in she goes, "Does his mom know he's doing that?"
posted by sweetkid at 9:40 PM on August 8, 2011

If someone just edited together all of the clips of the hilarious 6 year old girl, I'd be beyond happy. She is amazing.

They have some Morgan extra reels, as they do for other characters. And that's the last I'll say about Morgan, because now I'm feeling creepy.

From the Lady Gaga video:

Adult: Why does she wear all that crazy makeup and costumes all the time?
Kid: Cause she wants to show her true self.

ROFL.

Bwithh - I thought a lot of their responses were way more mature and thoughtful than most *adults* I talked to. And William, for all his hammy dickishness in other videos, had pretty cogent and articulate opinions. I'd watch him on CNN.

if I was forced to watch CNN

Nyan Cat bonus vid.

Adult: How long would you watch this video?
Morgan: Until I die!

ROFL.

I think these videos are hilarious (mostly because of the Nyan Cat video and the Rebecca Black video, which were the first ones I saw). I didn't know they were actors but I figured that they had to be, especially because a bunch of them have their own youtube channels.

Jake gives the kid in the green shirt a decent run for his money in the youth obnoxious blowhard category.

And am I just a creeper or was it kind of weird seeing Lia with a video of Charlie Sheen playing behind her since she kind of resembles a 14-year-old Denise Richards?

They may be actors, but I don't know that they are 'acting' in these videos, I assumed they were legit.

Also, the hate in some of the comments in this thread are ridiculous. I've seen these videos before and thought they were cute and interesting, yet in this thread seems like half the posters are bitching about it for no reason. Is it some bizarre form of un-ironic internet 'get off my lawnism' or something?

That little girls reaction Nyan cat was adorable.
posted by delmoi at 11:40 PM on August 8, 2011 [1 favorite]

The eagerness to please just drips off of these kids. Also, I think a lot of them are already familiar with the videos in question. So it's more a set of videos about kids trying to figure out how they're supposed to react than kids genuinely reacting.

ZenMasterThis: "Meta-Metafilter"

actually, that's more or less what happens in a metafilter thread : watching grown-ups react to a post. Thanks for this, that's first-rate material. I'm looking forward to watching kids reacting to these.

It's actually an excellent condensation of internet comment culture, except that even the four-year-old is significantly more insightful than most comments under any given news article or youtube video.

So, yeah, it's a lot like MetaFilter, really.

(And, to be perfectly honest, that dickish rapscallion reminds me a lot of myself at his age. Such a fine example of the common curmudgeon's larval stage is a rare sight for the Grown-Up, for whom the misanthropic maggot will usually put on airs of courteous caterpillarity. Gripe on, young man! Gripe on! Just please realize before it's too late that being a cynical prick won't win you friends or get you laid.)

I'm not sure why people are picking on William -- several of the kids are hammishly negative. It was pretty interesting to watch -- seeing such negativity-as-performance gives me a new lens on aspects of my own childhood.

William's just not as good at it as some of the others, so it's more noticeable, maybe.
