I don't understand why people choose adult contemporary or similar soundtracks for their cat videos. What am I supposed to get from that? Ah, life is good, now that I have Cateatingcabbageapro. People taking SSRIs should not take Cateatingcabbageapro. Cateatingcabbageapro may cause drowsiness and should not be taken while operating machinery.

Yeah, that one really made me nervous. That cat has made some leaps to figure out twisting off a bottle cap and its humans seemed to be facilitating the effort. Next thing you know they'll be letting the cat start their car.
I just saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes. We need to nip this sort of thing in the bud or next thing you know cats will be taking over and we humans will be their slaves. Oh, wait...

I remember the first time I caught my sister slapping my cat around. It was a little disturbing, though it was clear the cat loved it. Now I know it's just a normal cat kink.

That first cat is almost doing, like, kitteh butoh.
Also, I love love love that tentative slow tap-tap they do--we have a cat that makes frequent use of his "tentacles" in that way.

When cats meet on the edges of their territory they do that Cat Kaubki thing as a stand-off.
The cat's reaction to the doll is a bit like how some dogs just can't handle statues. It's a person! but! Not moving! Or smelling! AHHHH WHAT IS THIS AHHHHH

That first one! My Portia-kitty will frequently act like that about something that has been around for ages, but today she will act all afraid and tentative around it. I call it "Portia being veryvery brave". As in, oh look, today Portia is veryvery brave about the lemon on the counter. So cute, although she never really gets as comfortable with the "stranger" as the cat in the video.

Funny, I occasionally thwack my cat's belly, but always stop for fear of hurting him. After seeing these slapping videos, I decided to thwack him for reals. And holy CRAP he loved it. Who knew? (This is the same cat who was named by the fine members of MetaFilter.)
BTW, "When faced with the existential horror of his purposeless life, yackety cat panics" is the best YouTube description I've seen in a good long while.

Some of those cat slapping videos suggest to me that the pleasure the cats derive might be related to a form of response that cats have when they love each other very much. I don't care if they like it, I don't want to have that kind of relationship with my cat and I'm not trying it.
