Old Usenet

Feeling nostalgic? olduse.net is Usenet, updated in real time as it was thirty years ago. Also available over NNTP.

The web interface is a bit wonky, see this FAQ.

Some send me a fidonet message. I'm not sure if my forwarders are working. I'll reply when I get it next week.

I thought about subscribing, but then I realized that having to read all the old flamewars without being able to join in could probably kill a person.

Wow. The stuff going on at the bottom is just horrible. I mean, don't even attempt to read it. Just horrible racist and woman hating stuff.... particularly about MeFi mods......

Wow, that shared terminal is sort of upsetting.

yeah, read-only flame wars can be frustrating. although, apropos of this thread i could go watch early instances of women being told to "lighten up" on soc.women. well, in a few years, at least. i forget when the net.* broke out into heirarchies. 1984-ish?

I don't know, it might just be relaxing.

Oh for my halcyon days of youth, when I actually believed that lack of moderation was a feature.
