Harold Cooper’s Extend New York takes New York City to extremes, by extrapolating every street and avenue of the Manhattan grid to whole planet. What subway line stops at your front door, wherever you are? Why do all Avenues terminate in Shaytankuduk?

Surprisingly, it's off by a block already by the time you get to Central Park.

Also, I was hoping he'd extend Alphabet City east. Avenue XXX anyone?

Well, if New Yorkers are going to be insufferably self-obsessed assholes, at least they can acknowledge that the rest of the world exists.

Aw, you care!

Well, sort of, anyway.

Shaytankuduk may be the spiritual and cultural opposite of New York City. I'd like to take a handful of Uzbekistani dust and sprinkle it on 5th avenue just to see what happens.

I've lived in exactly two places: Texas and New York City. I can guarantee you there are at least two centers to the universe.

I always liked how surrey, bc and other cities in the area (Langley, point Roberts, etc) number their avenues from the US border, which would be 0 avenue.

I'm not sure where 0 street is, though. Maybe the western border off the coast?

Actually that makes no sense.

I'm delighted to find I still live on the Upper East Side, albeit on East 500th Avenue and 4000th Street or something.

....I only see a map of the world. What am I meant to see? (am I supposed to click something that shows me the streets?....)

On a practical level, I have a much deeper understanding of distances in terms of blocks than in any other form of linear measurement. Which makes this map pretty interesting.

Now I know how long it will take to walk directly to Korea, and exactly how tired I'll be when I get there.

The avenues run due north right around the Nevada/Colorado border.

The other center is in the South Pacific, at about where R'Iyeh should be.

Shaytankuduk translated literally means "Satan's well" (Shaytan = devil\satan, kuduk = well).
