What if Sonic ran like an idiot?

An artist named Zac Gorman asked "What if Sonic Ran like an idiot?" The answer spawned this little gif. This inspired Nedroid to urge others to make Sonic look doofy. posted by hot_monster (30 comments total) 20 users marked this as a favorite

The perfect example of this would involve Garry's Mod.

Cute idea, lame execution. Well, "others" is kind of cute. But the rest aren't worth much attention.

A standalone Tumblr has been created to gather the gifs in one place.

I love doofy animation jokes even more than I dislike Sonic's actual character design, so I am one hundred percent okay with this.

I actually just came in here to say how much I like the word "doofy".

A lot.

"Lame" was what they were going for. Mission Accomplished.

Still, it feels like they stole it from Monty Python.

If they wanted maximum silliness, they could have just motion captured me running.

It just this minute occurred to me that Sonic the Hedgehog was meant to be a hedgehog.

Sometimes I worry about myself.

Ohhh man, so I was a huge Sonic dork when I was young (as detailed in this earlier comment), and when I discovered the Sonic 2 beta a dozen years later, I was absolutely fascinated. I started thinking of my own themes for Sonic levels, and I wouldn't shut up about it. Some of them were serious, but the silly ones were a lot more fun to think about, like the Complete Breakfast Zone and the Moisture Lotion Zone. My best friend suggested that these levels should go in a knockoff version, perhaps called "Snox."

So I started doodling Snox, who was essentially Sonic's dorkier cousin. He had glasses, lank hair, shorts hitched up too high, and clunky orthopedic shoes. And he snorted and sniffled constantly. In my imaginary Snox game, he ran like he was about to lose his balance and wouldn't make it through any of the loop-de-loops. While Sonic would tap his foot impatiently if you didn’t pick up the controller, Snox would sniffle, nose a-wiggling, and eventually start picking his nose.

In addition to the main game (working title Oh No Snox!!), I thought of several spin-off Snox games. There was Snox Trucking Academy, in which our hero learned to drive (you started out on a tricycle and progressed to bigger vehicles). My favorite hypothetical game was Snox Office Solutions, where Snox was a generic white-collar worker in a cube farm, and your object was to go around and annoy your coworkers just enough without getting escorted out by security. For the bonus round, you'd raid through the office fridge and eat everyone else's lunches before getting caught, earning points for fancy-restaurant leftovers and losing them if you ate anything moldy.

Since I didn't have the wherewithal to actually create any of these games, Snox eventually wandered into the recesses of my memory, snorking and snerfling to himself, infringing no copyrights. But today's derpy Sonic marathon has brought these memories back! Maybe I'll at least learn how to create animated gifs and resurrect Snox in that way. Because if I learned anything, it's that you gotta ride that tricycle and keep on looking for the CEO's leftover lobster.

This just makes me wanna do a doofy Sonic cycle. But I am lazy and will merely add a link to this horrible aberration a friend and I perpetrated. She did the pencils and photoshop (including the fake notebook paper bg), I did the inks and am responsible for things like the human ear on Snic.

I have some "better" sonic drawings from that night but I'm not in the same city as that sketchbook right now. You are spared.

Metroid Baby, Snox sounds awesome. COMPLETE BREAKFAST ZONE // ACT 1

Metroid Baby, animated GIFs are really very similar to traditional cel animation. Typically you draw the frames as separate layers in Photoshop (or GIMP) and then there's an export function that turns it into animation.
