Out of everything I'm most impressed by the Schlitz pounds. With pull tabs!

Say what you want, but that debut album is fantastic.

Those are some hip, hip, hip ladies, man.

I love these pictures. Those are some tight pants on pretty much everyone. Really enjoy looking at candid snapshots especially of the 70's which was a time when I was sort of aware of what was going on, but not fully.

On top of the pictures being awesome, I love that the site's tagline is "your source for Van Halen news."

David Lee Roth looks clearly more drunk/stoned than the rest of the band. Also, love the wood paneling everywhere.

that debut album is fantastic

Completely fresh and exciting, sounded like nothing else at the time.

Perfect illustration of the fpp from the other day about the stasis of current pop culture. Only ten years separates Van Halen's debut from the Beatles, Cream, and Beggars Banquet.

Ten years back from 2012 -- Nickelback, Avril Lavigne, Eminem.

Know what I miss most about record stores? Hanging plants.

I wish all rock musicians looked as happy, at least part of the time, as Eddie Van Halen looks all the time. I know there's supposed to be a lot of attitude in rock music, but it's also supposed to be fun, and it's refreshing to see someone like Eddie who always looks like he's having a great time being awesome.

None of these pictures answers the question of whether or not they ever saw junior's grades.

Amazing post - and the comments on vhnd are perfect! Oh for the days of seeing Foghat displays hanging overhead (but I don't recall anyone hanging around The House of Guitars looking quite like these ladies).

I really hope the Internet never stops presenting me with things I didn't know I desperately needed to see until I saw them.

So the blond dude in the denim shirt in the seventh picture down (next to the cutie in overalls getting groped by Eddie) ... is me.

(just kidding)

(sort of)

I wouldn't have thought that photos of Van Halen (even at this early stage) were a rare thing that had to be "found".

Yes, so I was there (well not right there, but there, man) and I totally forgot that straight guys used to wear high heels!! They did!

These were my high school days. It seems like a long time ago. Before irony. Before liking/disliking something became a stand in for your personality.

Looking back, it felt so good to just be a fan.

Ed: "Totally. No, wait."

I can't stop looking at that first photo. I'm just slightly too young for this (those would have been the feathered bangs and tight pants of my friends' older sisters. And brothers too, for that matter.) but I think just went through puberty again looking at David Lee Roth with his open shirt, gold chain, hooded sexy eyes and glorious, glorious mane.

Sometimes, I really miss those days. First saw them in concert in 1979. I was in 8th grade. Saw them a couple of more times after that. At the time, they really were a different sound. And you know what? They were just fun.

And while I'm here, where the fuck is the sexy? Today "erotic" substitutes for sexy. Bring back the sexy!

And where's the hair? Bring back huge afros with pics in them, large curly brown manes, and blonde hair down to the ass. That's right bitch, hair is sexy!

And don't you think pot is way too expensive? I haven't smoked in a long time, but jesus christ, are you kidding? Bring back 17.50 half bag, 35 bag, and 110 for a quarter pound. Legalize pot. Who would you rather be on the road with, a drunk or a stoner? I rest my case.

And this is neither here nor there, but why do pictures of Jesus always make him look like the biggest pansy in Palestine?

And cigarettes are over 5 dollars a pack? In 1981 I could buy a pack of marlboro reds for 60 cents and they wouldn't of dreamed of carding me. There's no national health care plan, so what the fuck do you care if I smoke?

And... And... And..

And, as my great grandfather used to say, "Get the hell off my grass. Go play in the street." Fuck, he was mean.

This is one of those great moments for me when I can forget the mortgage, the lower back pain/crows feet/bunions, and the PTA crap, and just remember the good old rockin' times of my youth... When I had feathered hair (I believe they were called "wings"), high-waisted bell bottom jeans and was able to smoke a cig in a record store.
