itwofs - chronicles of plagiarism in indian film music. Features similarities in film music content between Indian films and it's (sic) counterparts.

Some sacrilegious examples: Sochna Hai Kya Jo Bhi Hoga Dekha Jayega and the original, La Lambada; Bhupen Hazarika's Bistirno Paarore, which he lifted from Paul Robeson's Ol' Man River. I write "sacrilegious" because apparently pointing these plagiarisms out in the subcontinent has led to riots in the past.

Hearsay, I'm afraid infini, that I gathered from the natives. If it seems specious can a mod please delete it?

Ooh! I noticed this one years ago and have been waiting for an opportunity to share:

The bass line from Telephone Manipol from Indian (1997) and All That She Wants by Ace of Base (linked to relevant sections)

I don't know, I personally find the use of the word natives as specious, perhaps locals might be more appropriate?

Just watched that La Lambada link from beshtya: Holy gratuitous upskirts batman! Some nice music in these, though I have no idea where it is all from.

Plagiarism, influence, sampling, whatever.

I've always been fond of Yeh Dil Na Hota Bechara (This Heart is Not Poor), SD Burman's take on the theme from Bridge on the River Kwai. Goes from a martial theme to a love song.

There is a long and rich tradition of Bollywood music directors plagiarizing from American and European music, as well as from other Bollywood composers. But then it's not like popular Western music has never appropriated anything from lesser-known musical traditions...

beshtya: "La Lambada "

Putting lyrics to a folk song is not necessarily plagiarism. Or am I misunderstanding your implication?

People still call people "natives?"

Is 'native' a slur now? I need to know if I need to update my Great Big List of Words Which Would Get Me Killed If I Ever Said Them.
