And people wonder why some pets eat their suddenly departed owners.
Dear god.

Just in case anyone gets too PETA-ish about this: the painted cats are all photoshops. The whole thing started (a long time ago now--I'm surprised to see it here) with the "Why Cats Paint" book as a joke about the pretentiousness of art criticism. Then the "Why Paint Cats" thing spun out from that.

Don't hide your light under a bushel or whatever.

Wait, what? They're all photoshopped?

What am I going to do with this rainbow of acrylics and the feline restraining device I bought now?

We have searched the web for more information but searching for anything like "painting your pussy" takes us to all the wrong kinds of sites.
Hee!

You make one erroneous assumption. There is nothing sudden in the departing. It is very slow... and very deliberate.

Elephants paint too. I'd say cats have a better grasp of composition, but elephants have much more expressive brushwork. On a whole I'd say cats and elephants are among the top three animal species that paint. Certainly some of the greatest cat painters are cats.

This is a real conversation I was lucky enough to overhear between a woman and my coworker when I worked at a used bookstore:

Customer: "Do you have any books on painting cats?"
Coworker: "I don't think we have any books specifically about painting cats, but we do have a few painting instruction books..."
Customer: "No, I mean a book about painting your cat. Putting paint on your cat."
Coworker: "Are you crazy?!"

Yeah I only know about these books at all from browsing Snopes, which has more info on the background of the books. Also, bonus classic AskMe: Dyeing my white cat festive colors for special occasions: sick and/or dangerous?

I've personally always wished there was an ethical way to tattoo Sphinx cats. (I know there isn't, so calm down). But an intricately tattooed Sphinx would be the coolest looking thing ever.

This hasn't appeared here before? I'm kind of shocked. Cat painting has been on the Internet for years hasn't it?

It's not the paint that bothers them, it's the getting the last coat off with the blowtorch.
