Damn.

I'd hoped it would be a somber choral setting of one of the rhymes from Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising sequence.

Another post with both the tags "cthulhu" and "christmas". Also, Penny Arcade: The Last Christmas.

lovely, but this remains my carol of choice.

The related Death To The World carol works better cause unlike Carol Of The Bells, the orginal tune isn't already terrifying and relentless.

I love it.

I've always said Christmas needs more Cthulhu.

I've been listening to these all morning. In youtube I like to add the snow effect for an extra layer of irony.

Adding these to my very short list of acceptable Christmas music, thank you.

Do you know who else oozes down your chimney and gives you what's coming to you?

Some people did this, this monday, at Davis Square. Cthulhu-carolling, though I don't know if there is video.

My favorite is It's Beginning to look a lot like Fish-Men

I prefer the singing/dancing video of Fishmen over the slideshow one.

Shouldn't this have been done in some kind of Partch scale?

To the tune of Band Aid's Feed the World:

It’s christmas time and it’s time to be afraid
at christmas time, the stars are right and the price is paid

And when your mind is empty, He will flay you like a toy
And throw his arms around the world at xmas time.

Please say a prayer, pray for the other ones
the end of times, it’s hard, but when you’re on the run
There’s a world outside your window
and it’s a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is a bloody stream of tears
And the only bells that tolls now is the sense of impending doom.

Well tonight thank god it’s them instead of you
And there won’t christmas anymore from this day
the greatest threat to us has reappeared

Where cthulhu’s cult still grows
like the seas and rivers flow

IA IA CTHULHU PHTAGN

Here’s to him, risen from his deepest slumber
Here’s to the those underneath the burning ground

IA IA CTHULHU PHTAGN

He’ll eat the world
eat the world
eat the world
Sending nations mad with fear and
eat the world
Rl’yeh has risen from the deep
eat the world
Letting man know it is their time.

Mi-Go We Have Heard on High is likely my favorite, although A Brumalian Wish is a Lovecraft poem, and fairly nice, if fusty (Lovecraft was a terrible poet, but his Xmas poems have real charm once in a while).

You can also buy the CDs at the HPLHS site -- A Very Scary Solstice and An Even Scarier Solstice. For that last-minute stocking stuffer.

Every single year I go through this. Nothing puts me in the Christmas spirit like fishmen and madness.

Source of one of my favorite quotes related to this time of year: "Christmas: the one time of year when you can’t avoid the nuts in your family muesli. "

I love the carols, but for my money the greatest Lovecraft cover of all time will forever be, "Hey There Cthulhu".
