Flash game: 3 Slices

3 Slices -- For Flash Friday, your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to let the red stuff fall through the bottom of the window, by making 3 cuts through the red and white pieces.
I like this for several reasons, one being the understated sounds used for "pass" and "fail." A game that doesn't try to assault my eyes/ears is a glorious thing.

What, no bonus points for hitting the goal in fewer than three cuts?
Nifty, though. Still on level 14 ...

maudlin: What, no bonus points for hitting the goal in fewer than three cuts?Once you solve all 20 levels, you get a message saying that if your total percentage is over 1900%, you'll unlock a bonus mode- which is a two-slice mode. Then you can run through it at an even harder level.

supermedusa: addictive! jammed on 20, taking a break now..Yeah, level 20 was basically luck; you make the right cuts and some- but not all- of the time it'll clear out most of the board, and you might not even need the third cut.

Goddammit. I had stuff to do tonight. Thanks.

The puzzle notwithstanding, I'm impressed by the physics simulation involved. They're doing gravity, momentum, collisions, and friction for many pieces in arbitrary shapes -- and that's not really all that easy.

in 2 slice mode it seems like the platform is vibrating, which actually makes some things easier

Yes, the physics seem pretty consistent (well, except for 20, which I'll call a fluke).

Fun! There's a quick/methodical way to clear 20 in 2 cuts (if you get it right).

My OCD is making this game frustrating- I came back tonight (having solved all the 3 and 2 cut levels earlier) to get a perfect score. For the 3-slice mode, I can't seem to break 1953%- I have 73% on level 3, and 80% on level 4- and I'm not sure if either can be done at 100% (which I got for all the other levels).
Anyone able to get a higher score on those two levels?

IIRC I got 75 percent on level 3 so you can get a few percent more...

I got 76% on level 3, but level 4 is still my worst score at 68%. Weird thing is, I got 65% on level 4 in 2 slice mode, so I should be able to do better with 3 slices.

If you navigate directly to the embedded swf file, then fullscreen the window, the game is much easier.
Also yeah, if you sit and wait, your success status will change if the piece finally falls off (I went from 0% fail to 98% new record on level two by sitting and waiting about two minutes for precarious jiggling pieces to fall, then a minute later it went up to 99%). Also about the "jittering" I mentioned in a prior comment, that seams to be a "feature" of level two, and not some kind of two slice mode bonus.

In 3 slice mode, I have 75 and 83 percent respectively on levels 3 and 4. In 2 slice mode, I did even better on level 3, with 76%. I don't think it's possible to get 100% on level 3.

79 and 84 on 3 and 4
91 and 98 on 7 and 8
99 on 2, 16 and 18
everything else 100
92 on 7 is possible, I know this because I have gotten 46 on each block on independent tries, but never on both in the same go.

The levels where I can't figure out how to get 100% (in 3-slice mode) are 2, 3, 4, and 7.
In 2-slice mode, I'm currently stuck on level 13. I can't remember the strategy I used in 3-slice mode. Probably just made some lucky guesses.

I just got 100% on 2, the trick is a tiny sliver on the bottom, and wait a long time, the piece over the sliver will dance over the right edge if it has no significant obstacles.
I think 100% is impossible on 3 4 and 7 (79 84 91 here), everything else I have 100 in now.

The lack of precision, combined with the length of time you need to wait to let all the pieces jitter off the edge, made level 7 infuriating, but I was eventually able to get 100% with two cuts. What makes the pieces dance like that?

I don't know what you guys are talking about with the jittering. I never see extended jittering on any level—pieces slide off, the game goes "ba-blink!" and it's over. I wonder what I'm missing.

The jittering happens if you make a slice on the very bottom of a block that is extremely thin.
On level 2, try one hair width cut that goes through the very bottom of all the vertical pieces. The three slivers you make should be so thin that they only have an outline color, and no fill color. The vertical pieces should dance around for a very long time, and eventually every single block has fallen off when they make their way to the edge.

I just got 99% on level 7 (3 slice mode) by using the hair thin slice at the bottom mode.

The jittering ass-cattle approach seems to be effective, but isn't quite as satisfying as figuring out the angles and letting gravity go to work.

I ended up with 1958 on the 3-cut, and 1889 on the 2-cut version. I'm sure both could be improved, but I'm not willing to risk carpal tunnel for that. Neat game.

I matched the 1962, but there are three levels (3 and 4, and 14 in the two-cut mode) that I think can't see a way to do much better on.
