Homer Simpson famously said that the Germans have a word for everything. Unicode is rapidly becoming its character-encoding equivalent.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is confusing and you need to make it make more sense if it's going to be a MeFi posts that is more than a Simpsons reference and a link to a Unicode character. -- jessamyn

Homer also said the French don't even have a word for 'victory'. So his linguistic knowledge is potentially suspect.

I would kill for a numpad to test this right now.

You need a font that supports this character to even have a hope of seeing it correctly in the browser.

What are you waiting for, fontsmiths? GET ON IT!

Treaty of Westphalia, anyone? Perhaps some recipes? I know the mods always look forward to it.

That's a Steve Martin quip, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

"Boy, those French, they have a different word for everything!"

Previously.

One day letters will be mostly obsolete and will only be used by old people and academics who talk about abstract ideas. As of jan 2012 there are over 100k Unicode code points assigned to graphics characters, and we still have over 800k code points left unassigned. Want to see them all? Download the 90 mb PDF from here.

BTW: the pile of poo shows up fine on my iPad, it has little googlie eyes and is smiling!

Correct it was Steve Martin - who also told us about the 86 year old singing teacher that wanted a young student to "sing from her diaphragm"

But that's another story.

Little known fact: the emoji character on the iPhone/iPad for pile of poo was reused for the snake and the ice cream emojis too.
