Maybe xammer meant Wired. :P .... I never thought I'd see a wired site from a .mil about anthrax. That is weird, and funky.

It reminds me of an AYBABTU type of site.

Wait... anthrax kills?

The military should never have been allowed to get its hands on that dangerous Flash technology.

It almost makes it seem like anthrax comes from outer space.

it sure makes *me* feel like our military is taking this seriously....

Not my tax dollars. Uh-uh, buddy, my tax dollars did not pay for flash. No way. You're kidding me.

Someone's 13 year old kid got to do the anthrax web site. I love its "in your face" attitude.

actually, it really reminds me of a flash designer I know (via a list) - young guy, very "hip" - but works for a defense contractor! (I sent this to that list, because I thought he & others would groove on it...and I was sort of curious if he had any connection....)

Weird? Not really. It looks like an ad for the army.

Leave it to the government to make death and dying look like a lot of fun (or at least approximate a video game...just like those DoD video images we're seein' nightly).

I'm holding out for JamminSmallpox.osd.mil. I heard from this kid who knows this dude in the army, right, who said that your cursor turns into this like totally dope spore thing and you can infect these small midwest towns.

...etc...

Dammit, where's the wicked cool Flash game?

Dude, this sucks.

The reason it's weird is because of the controversy surrounding the anthrax vaccine. People in the recent past opted to be court martialed and kicked out of the military (and quit the military) rather than be forced to get the vaccine, thinking it had to do with Gulf War syndrome. Check out this site. Thus the DOD is trying like hell to be "cool" and appeal to the youth that make up our soldier population. Do you have any idea what our soldiers are up against? It's now what we civilians are up against (disclosure: I am former military...).

The truth is that the Michigan lab that produces the anthrax vaccine has had serious FDA approval problems due to crumbling infrastructure, and no commercial lab wants to produce the vaccine due to liability exposure (although I'm sure they'll get one hell of a deal now).

At any rate, the vaccine doesn't necessarily protect anyone from lab-produced, strengthened anthrax.

If you really want to know all the evil ways man has marshalled all his creativity and intelligence and ingenuity to destroy each other, check out the book Biological Weapons and America's Secret War: Germs (not as anti-American as the title suggests...more like anti-humanity) if your attention span will allow it.

For some reason, this bio-attack makes me even angrier than the Sept. 11 attacks. Is there no end to this evil?

BTW, Bayer is the patent-holder of Cipro...so buy stock now.

Sorry, tonight I am particularly angry.

Meh, they aren't cool enough to use the <BLINK> tag...yet...

I liked the booming techno soundtrack. It reminds me of the computer interfaces in early-1990's movies, heh.

Apparently you don’t have the attention span...

If this is aimed at young people around 20 as airgirl suggests, would they really swallow this tacky s**t? When I saw the first screen, I immediately thought it was a joke. I'm not hip enough to tell from a brief look, and everyone is taking it seriously so. . . I would just run the other way, myself--particularly if the minds behind this site are the minds that developed the vaccine.

Does this mean I can purchase an anthrax shirt from my local Hot Topics?

Vaccine, shmaccine...information like this gives me half a mind to stock my own basement with bottled water, air purification systems, antibiotics and cots, and use it as a hospital for my nearest and dearest should we need it. Yeah, our beleagured hospitals and emergency medical folks can handle the onslaught...

However, I only have half a mind and it's rather busy with baseball playoffs, sugary breakfast cereal and forensic detection esoterica. Doubt I'll stockpile. And I'd join the health care industry, but my squeamish tendency to pass out would be more a hindrance than a help.
