Makes me cringe.

Hey, I wasn't the only one who thought that guy sounded like Peter Gabriel, awesome.

"We have to act like we are camping but we're really homeless". Great line.

I thought it was amusing right up until they went for the puke joke.

Yeah the puke joke was where I parted ways from the humor.

Then again, I am so sick of that song that anything that might make people less likely to listen to it is a benefit in my book.

Hah. Even though this is kind of stupid, I think it's cute. I love(d?) the Gotye song and thought the much-proliferated Walk Off The Earth cover was the ultimate in soulless, redundant wankery.

I really didn't know what's going on here, so I dig some digging. For those similarly in the dark:

This is the original song by Gotye.

This is a cover by a group of people called Walk off the Earth.

The video posted in the OP is by a group called Key of Awesome, and they are parodying the cover by Walk off the Earth.

Wird Al is one thing. He's an actual talented musician and he's funny. These people are neither of those and seem to be piggybacking on the popularity of people with talent. Bad and cynical.

"Wird Al is one thing. He's an actual talented musician and he's funny"

I remember years ago listening to musician friends bitch about Weird Al - saying he was talentless and non-funny. It is in our genes to shake our fists at the new, and gaze warmly at the old.

I am so glad they also got the "Shock the Monkey" similarity. This is great, thanks.

As a Weird Al devotee and the guy who introduced Gotye to MeFi (the 'State of the Art' video), I approve of this parody. A little sloppier than I prefer, but appropriate to the subject of the parody. I LQed (Laughed Quietly).

The Walk Off the Earth cover was pretty wanky, but I really enjoyed their Party Rock cover.

Totally agree. So tired of that bullshit gimmicky pretend-live "viral" cover of a good song by Gotye.
This parody was pretty funny.

Oh, great, now I know who Gotye is.

Oh, great, now I know who Gotye is.

Don't worry, pretty soon he'll just be somebody that you used to know.

OR,

Life is tough.

That's wedding band hell, is what that is.

There should be a German word for the feeling you get when you see a parody of something you've never even heard of. Gotyedammerung maybe.

Ha. Yes. And for the disorientation of then seeing the original.
