Well now no one has to post anything ever again for we have reached the apotheosis of the internet

I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into these fonts, or why.

Many years ago - pre-Internet, in fact - I house-sat for a couple who had named their black cat "Bold" and their gray cat "Demi-Bold". At the time I thought, who the hell thinks up the idea of combining "cat" with "font"??

Little did I know.

I made you an ANDALE MONO but I CODED IT.

I should add that my graphic designer crazy cat lady friend used to have a cat named Gill Sans and one named Fenice.
posted by rtha at 5:49 PM on February 15, 2012

A cat is really more "sans gills" than Gill Sans....

...Except for Aquacat, and we do not speak of Aquacat.

I apologize. In hindsight, the <blink> tag was WAY overboard.

I will constrain my threadshitting from this point on to standards-compliant markup.

Your "Cats as Fonts" website intrigues me and I would very much like to subscribe to your newsletter.

evilmidnightbomberwhatbombsatmidnight, I was going to say the same thing. Well, I didn't have that suggestion, but Cooper is the single font that didn't work for me.

My new kitteh is named Milo...and it turns out there is a Milo font. It's slender and elegant and has an appealing curve in the tail of the lower case a - just like him! Now I need to find fonts for everyone I know, except my son Cooper, he's all set.

Much to my surprise, I can't explain why I don't hate this.

Bank Gothic - Yeah, like I'm gonna let my paper-shredding tabby get ahold of actual cash. (She's partial to used dryer sheets -- just tears the crap out of 'em. And Kleenex straight from the box.) I do appreciate that the cat is fat, though.

I did not want to like this. I refused to like this. I... I...

I love this.

I used to give my cat, a giant who I would catch sitting up in my desk chair like he was a business cat, a couple bucks every once in a while. I'd take it back in exchange for wet food and chide him for having poor business sense. He could have gotten twice the food at the store.Too bad he had no pockets to carry the money. Sucker!

Cats gotta get over this no water and no clothes thing if they expect to get anywhere in corporate America.

Porcelain is a lovely font that I was unaware existed until just now. Is it a free font, or one I'd have to pay for?
posted by misha at 7:42 PM on February 15, 2012

And THIS is the obvious Cooper cat.

I really don't want to imagine any of Eric Gill's fonts as a cat macro...

Is Dingbats up for adoption?

I swear, I was using an ATM the other day and one of the interstitial screens had a stock photo, a fistful of money or something -- and in the bottom right, in all-caps Impact font, "GET CASH". I think they plugged the photo into a lolcats generator and used it verbatim.

Great. Now I'm going to spend the rest of the evening trying to determine what fonts my cats most resemble. Which font breaks stuff and is why you can't have nice things? Wait, Comic Sans is already taken.

You know, I was really expecting to see cats lounging around in the shape of letters. I totally pictured it in my mind. I am disappointed. Or I suppose I should say in internet cat-speak, I has a sad.

misha: "Porcelain is a lovely font that I was unaware existed until just now. Is it a free font, or one I'd have to pay for?"

Seems to be free, the creator's list of fonts, free and not, is here, and has quite a few interesting things, especially if you like vector grunge. There's a commercial one called "Monster Days" that looks like a more elaborate version of Porcelain, too.

Pretty sure I've seen Helvetica on the L train during the morning rush. All iPhone in one hand, coffee mug in the other, darting through people's lets and rushing up the stairs at Union Square.

I started crying at dingbats and then lost the ability to breathe at futura, leaving me in the position of trying to laugh & cry quietly so my wife could sleep while I died. Now I'm dead.
