Yo La Tengo are once again playing requests for pledges Yo La Tengo are once again playing requests for pledges, beginning at 9pm US EST TONIGHT on WFMU. Every year, Yo La Tengo perform requests live on-air in exchange for pledges, to help keep freeform noncommercial radio station WFMU (91.1 FM in Jersey City, NJ) on the air. This year is no exception. They will begin playing at 9pm US EST tonight, and will be playing listener requests for several more hours.

This seems to have rather localized value. What about the majority of us who don't live in New Yawk or New Joisy?

I have ... I have waited so long for this.

I'm really excited for the show. I actually forgot that it was happening until just this morning.

I haven't really paid much attention to the marathon so far this year. Most years, I donate enough money to get two or three of the mix CDs, but I space it out over the two weeks so I can be in the running for lots of contests. This year we're flat broke, so I just made a small nominal donation when I got the newsletter in the mail in January.

By the way, if you're at your computer anyway, open the stream now, as the connections often run out during this.

Two final corrections:
(1) A commenter on the Matador Records Blog reports that the seminal recording of “I’m your Puppet” was released by James and Bobby Purify in 1966. Another version was subsequently recorded by Sam & Dave in 1967. The YLT version sounds pretty faithful to the Purify version. Dan Penn released his own recording of the song in 1994, but "I'm Your Puppet" is most closely associated with the Purifys despite the fact that they didn’t write it.

(2) Bruce Bennett of the A-Bones (and of Yo La Tengo during the WFMU Marathon) reports that the track “A-Bomb Bomp” (in the seventh set) which I eventually attributed to The A-Bones was actually a cover of a song originally recorded by Mike Fern.
