Snark all you want, I somehow love these.

I feel like candidates for president should inspire determination, admiration or at least fear.

Instead these jackasses give me the feeling someone forgot to tie up the sadsack.

Mitt Romney for.... being an awkward softy with feelings?

You are supposed to read the LOVE ME as if it was spoken by a robot from a 1950s sci-fi film.

Oh, and this is the inspiration for the Ron Paul. Think more alone than old.

From Rhaomi's Loose Rick's link: Santorum later lashed out at reporters, using a profane word as he accused them of “distorting” his speech.

I really want to know that that naughty word Rick said. I hope it was motherfucker. I mean it was too profane for Politico.

I also sort of wish Bachmann and Perry were still in it to see Bas Van Oerle's treatment.

I love the posters but might be because the fact that Mitt Romney is the most unfavorable potential candidate gives me faith in democracy that I haven't had I a while

Man, I really hate Newt Gingrich. He is a terrible little monster, with terrible little monster morals, and also some bad ideas about how to run a country.

But, moonbase.
c'mon, I want a Moonbase, and you know you also want a Moonbase.
We need more politicians promising us Moonbases. We need to stop making fun of the Moonbase.
In fact, if any polling entities are out there reading this, I, a left wing, Democrat voting young person, and hippie , will almost certainly vote for Newt, if he makes us a Moonbase.

Maybe we can get Obabma to promise us a trip to mars!

that sweater vest.

It is in fact an object of tragedy.

I really like these for the most part, but I think they would be better if they presented the candidates or their ideas the way the candidates actually thought of themselves. Would make a better parody of propaganda.

A redo of Ron Paul's poster from scratch is definitely needed. Ron Paul stands atop a hill, holds a giant hammer aloft with one hand and points at the Capitol Dome, conveniently on the very next hill, and below him a river of followers, with hammers and torches in hand, stream almost menacingly towards it. His face, tellingly enough, should be looking away from the Capitol, essentially looking backwards. The caption would read "Freedom!"

The Santorum goatse is spot on.

Kinda on-topic: New Santorum ad morphs Obama with Ahmadinejad
posted by Joe in Australia at 2:57 AM on March 26, 2012

so... the posters are making fun of Ron Paul for being old, Rick Santorum for being very religious, Newt Gingrich for being a space enthusiast, and Mitt Romney for.... being an awkward softy with feelings?

That and there are no obvious spelling mistakes.
posted by mattoxic at 3:04 AM on March 26, 2012

Yes, there is typo: it should be "onward", not "onwards".

The Santorum one reminds me of the creepy religious psycho played by Colin Hanks on season 6 of Dexter. It's too bad only one of them is a fictional monster.

c'mon, I want a Moonbase, and you know you also want a Moonbase.

And if Newt was actually promising to do something that would result in the existence of a moon base I'd be roughly a million times more interested in seeing him as a candidate.

As it is, he's pretty much promised to allow the same market forces that protect us from recession to create a moonbase for us. This, and a long history of half-assed plans just like it, is why a million times my current interest in seeing Newt Gingrich as a candidate is not a very big number.

I think they would be better if they presented the candidates or their ideas the way the candidates actually thought of themselves.... Ron Paul stands atop a hill, holds a giant hammer aloft...

I don't think that's how Ron Paul sees himself. Ron Paul sees himself as the smartest person in the room that no one listens to, so he just doesn't even bother trying anymore. You know, that kid who just withdrew in the seventh grade and just exhales loudly whenever the cool kids are doing something stupid. Every now and then, one of them comes over to his passive-aggressive mopespace and tries to engage him, and maybe he actually blurts out one of his ideas, but it always ends up being "Go back to the gold standard!" and everyone looks around and hems and haws and goes back to discussing the theme for next month's school dance. And Ron Paul silently berates himself in the corner for another month.

Newt's needs a more maniacal expression, and laser eyes.

Romney looks like a Bizarro Romney. Who I guess would only say what he believes in.

That said, none of these nail the propaganda-poster look as much as a real one from the previous election cycle. I'm sure you can guess which one I have in mind.

Bizarro Romney

I think Bizarro Romney would just flop-flip instead of flip-flopping. Though it is hard to imagine that they would be temporally correllated, so really all you could say is that Romney and Bizzaro Romney would have to be summed in quadrature really.
posted by Chekhovian at 6:00 AM on March 26, 2012 [1 favorite]

and you know you also want a Moonbase.

I do! I do want a moonbase!

And I want it run by hot girls in silver outfits! And purple hair!

You think Santorum's going to make something like this? Oh, hell no! And Romney's just too dull. He'd build a convention center in Providence, Rhode Island and be all hurt when that didn't cut it.

You're right, St. Sorryass! I'm now prepared to support Newt, IF Gerry Anderson is his VP. A Gingrich/Anderson ticket, and I'm onboard. Let's make this happen!

God damn! I'm excited about Republican politics! Shit, we could have submarines that launch jet fighters underwater!

We're going to have Little Ricky just two blocks from here tomorrow night, so I'm interested in sign ideas.
Bonus points: I was one of the major editors on the Wikipedia article about the Savage word prank. Of course, I had no idea at the time he would lose his Senate race AND later run for President.

I really want to know that that naughty word Rick said. I hope it was motherfucker. I mean it was too profane for Politico.

The word appears to have been "bullshit". Make of that what you will.

Until a campaign youtube causes the Romney wave function to collapse, Romney and Bizarro-Romney exist simultaneously in this universe.

I am unfairly and unreasonably disappointed that there isn't a version with Odo and the word "CHANGELING" on it.

I like these.

That pic actually inspired a feeling for a Republican candidate I never thought I'd experience -- a kind of empathetic pity. Huh.

Maybe we can get Obabma to promise us a trip to mars!

Bush already did that. Probably not wise to hold your breath.

The Santorum goatse is spot on.

I had to look at that one again, and sadly, I don't think there's a deliberate goatse reference there. It would have been fantastic if there were, though.
