It's a lot of kicking

Now I want to watch the original movie.

I liked the part where the guy kicked the other guy (and the palm tree, the building pillar, etc.) I got halfway through and decided I'd rather watch the actual movie, but sadly Netflix only has the (apparently) lackluster non-JCVD sequels Kickboxer 3-5 available for streaming.

Hmm, not as entertaining as I hoped it would be. Maybe if they just cut it down to Van Damme kicking things...

I'm liking Fast and Furious just the gear shifting quite a bit.

Kickboxer is okay, but Bloodsport was truly the peak Van Damme. Plus, monkey-style guy! I'm nearly certain that every fighting game out there, from Street Fighter to Tekken to Mortal Kombat was just trying to recapture how awesome that film was.

Van Damme used to get teased a lot for a quote that I can't track down, but basically he said that, in action films, acting is done in the action. I never really understood why he got grief for that. Probably because he doesn't always communicate well, and sometimes sounds like he's just babbling (a fact that was both satirized and rendered unexpectedly moving in JCVD). But Van Damme often really seemed to understand how to express character through physical action. That a kick isn't just a kick, it is motivated, and the way the kick is executed can reveal motivation. That a fight scene is as much about the personalities of the people behind it as it is about the raw spectacle of physical violence.

I have to give him credit for that. He doesn't just kick in a film. He kicks like he means it. His kicks tell us about his character. This supercut pretty much tells us the entire movie.

I love Kickboxer and I think I would like to see this supercut every morning when I wake.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but all of The Fast and the Furious, just the gear shifting.

Or, embarrassment, obvs can't read, what knave posted.

Saves me watching the film.

It does betray how simple the choreography of the kicking is during the ring fights, though.

That's why I posted this primarily - I'm not usually so into SLYT. But you really do get the entire plot of the movie revealed through kicks, and JCVDs athleticism really is pretty breathtaking, I find it very mesmerizing.

Wtf is a bald eagle doing in Thailand? Is it on a break from college to find itself, or, failing that, do some killer snorkeling?

Makes me wanna kick something.

It's no kickpuncher.

That was kick-ass.

I'm somewhat surprised the movie condensed down to only about 5 minutes. What was its original run time, 10?

I got a kick out of David Letterman's Top Ten list, "Top Ten Things Overheard In Line For The New Kick Boxer Movie."

Number Ten: "I hear there's a lot of kick boxing in this one..."

Point of order! Are strikes with the knee technically "kicking"?

This is pretty good but nowhere near as good as Redlettermedia's Every Face Punch in Road House!

Is there a man on Earth who has thrown more jump spinning back kicks than JCVD? I think not, sirs.

Metafilter: Just the Kicking.

That was awesome. BTW, I think this is the day I will remember as when I decided to become a pacifist who rejected the idea that violence was ever redemptive. BTWW, I thought I remembered them dipping their hands in broken glass and fighting that way? Oh, Jen Claude, I get your movies all mixed up.
