Let the Beat Build. Fantastic single-take video by Nyle.

Previously as part of a best-of compilation.

I know I've heard that beat in another song or two. I remember seeing this when it first came out. I don't think I made it through the whole video previously. Wonder what happened to him since then. Haven't seen hide nor hair of this cat since.

Great video, great song, fun execution. An example of rap that I like that isn't 20 years old.

Also earns extra bonus points for facial hair.

See also Lil Wayne produced by Kanye West featuring the sample from Eddie Kendricks.

From the youtube description:

This video was filmed in one shot, with audio being recorded simultaneously with the video.

All the more impressive.

Anyone else left thinking this feels like a 2nd-Millenium update of "Fame"?

And a little background would have improved this FPP - is this a student production, as it claims? Where/when?

I would have liked this better if he just stopped talking so we could hear the music.

But I was impressed by the execution. Well done, that man!

He's not talking, he's rapping and it's part of the music.

It was a student project at the Clive Davis Institute at NYU's Tisch School.

True but since the song is called "Let the Beat Build" it would have been more impressive had the beat been as good as the video.

And Nyle's flow is great, just not particularly funky.

What's a good beat? Funky flow?

Brother J, "Dark Sun Rider".

Ugh. Can we please not play "this rap is not as good as my favorite rap"?

^ Ah! But let us never shy away from discussion. The video is wonderful. The track it supports is, well, alright. Not aiiight but really just alright. It's good. But if I was really going to be impressed the track would be live and the performers would be adding their parts as it progressed.

Of course that disappointment would be alleviated some if the track itself was "the beat".

As in, "IT'S THE BEAT!"

Which you know IMO it's kinda sorta not. But of course YMMV. I'm just saying mine did.
