Tycho Brahe, probably best known for his drinking and pill binge of 1997 was the author of a great number of fantasy works, of which the most influential may have been The Story That Is Built One Sentence At a Time By Those That Read It.

I thought Tycho Brae was best known for being an amazing renaissance astronomer with a metal nose.

So it's essentially Penny Arcade Fan Fiction?
posted by Drumhellz at 3:38 PM on June 25, 2012 [1 favorite]

Several years ago Penny Arcade had a comic in which Tycho Brahe (the comic version of Tycho aka Jerry Holkins, half of the Penny Arcade team) was hired to write a fantasy saga. A few other comics elaborated on the world of said saga, as well as the licensing and ownership shenanigans surrounding the doubly-fictional works. As explained on Holkins's Wikipedia page, this resulted in an extremely elaborate fan-created wiki detailing the books in the series, its many spin-offs and associated media, and a great deal of fictional minutiae about Tycho Brahe, the 'author' of the books.

Maybe a mod can retitle this "Penny Arcade Fan Fiction" so the post would actually make some sense? Also the astronomy historian in me is still cranky about the fact that this has nothing to do with the real Tycho Brahe, who deserves his own FPP.

Damn! *I* would have made that last comment, but I was being too diligent about supplying a link. Here it is though.

Penny Arcade Fan Fiction?

Well, sort of. It's more collaborative fiction or world-building in that the original work authors are (or were) pretty involved at the outset. It's sort of a grey area.

It's an in-depth wiki for a series of books (and the Saturday morning cartoon loosely based on them, and the collectible card game based on the cartoon) that doesn't exist.

Neat to see that ELotH:TES is still there. I was delighted by it when it seemed to spring up overnight out of nothing.

A more enjoyable post, for me, would have had some links to the best stuff that's come out of it over time. Hopefully the pill binge and the exquisite corpse aren't the best stuff.

OMG, I wrote part of this (a very small and ridiculous part) 6 or 7 years ago.

It was a slow day at work.

"Epic Legends of the Hierarchs: The Elemenstor Saga" (abbreviated as ELotH:TES) is a fan-driven parody of the generic fantasy fiction that serves as the backstory of many fantasy game franchises. It was created by Holkins {aka Tycho Brahe} as a single PBWiki page and rapidly grew in size as Penny Arcade fans joined in expanding the parody.

The tales of the Saga itself rotate around several (non-existent) bases: The original 13 'canon' books, the Japanese anime series, the American re-make of the anime, the collectible card game, and even the odd life of the author himself, and such events as his several-year long "pills and booze binge." These are only the major pieces of the story, and other fragments abound. A version of the wiki is available for purchase in the form of a reference guide to the 13 novel cycle.

Tycho's Moose

"Tycho was said to own one percent of the entire wealth of Denmark at one point in the 1580's. Tycho often held large social gatherings in his castle.. Pierre Gassendi wrote that Tycho also had a tame elk (moose) and that his mentor the Landgrave Wilhelm of Hesse-Kassel (Hesse-Cassel) asked whether there was an animal faster than a deer. Tycho replied, writing that there was none, but he could send his tame elk. When Wilhelm replied he would accept one in exchange for a horse, Tycho replied with the sad news that the elk had just died on a visit to entertain a nobleman at Landskrona. Apparently during dinner the elk had drunk a lot of beer, fallen down the stairs, and died."

1580's was all the way live.
