Large format Kodachromes from World War II. Though these beautiful color photos may look like they were taken yesterday for some kind of nostalgic magazine spread, they were actually taken during World War II to promote patriotism, encourage women to join the war effort and in general to present life on American soil in a favorable light. Previously.

The world was a lot more blue in those days.

Can you imagine those gorgeous hairdos in a modern factory? They'd be covered by a hairnet -- tragic!

Even better, these are Kodachrome transparencies, which explains the rich colour and dynamic range. In the right hands this film gave amazing resolution.

I'm sure I've seen these photos before via a link from MeFi. Possibly here.
You can be bothered to find the previous link, but not click to see if the content's a double?

Man, those are lovely. But they could not have been taken today, or even yesterday. Kodachrome is gone.

Yes, it's the same set of photos, both originally from Shorpy.

I love this stuff, but that Shorpy page is a mess. 1/64th content, buried somewhere is 1000 monetized links. I know it's a living, but you can't even navigate through the images.
