There's a charming follow-up to the sunbathing picture, when Carrie Fisher and her stunt double (Tracy Eddon) noticed the photographer a few seconds later (via AICN).

I love these--I came across a smaller collection of some of them a few months ago, but lost the link. Thanks for posting. I'm partial to the one with tauntaun, because it looks like a cheesy vacation photo (but on Hoth.) And the picture of Hamill and Guinness and the drids, because it looks like everyone just decided to chill for a while in the desert? And all of the ones with people eating. And all of these, really.

She did that in the gold bikini (and it seems from these pics, in her Hoth clothes too).
And she tried to help improve the prequels.
Yay for Carrie!

This isn't Carrie (is it)? Is this one of the minor characters in the original Star Wars, in the scenes on Tattooine that got cut?
Is this the same girl looking through the binoculars, in the photo right above Carrie F and her beach ball?

Correct, thermonuclear.jive.turkey, that's Koo Stark, one of Luke's group of friends on Tattooine who didn't make the edit. You can find the deleted scenes online if you search around.

Mod note: Hey, guys, if you are linking direct images from malgusto (not sure about the others), you need to know that those won't show up here for people who don't already have the images in their cache from visiting the page, apparently because of anti-hotlinking scripts from the site. We're getting display error flags on posts that are linking that way, so if your comment is deleted it's probably because of that. Maybe just link to the page and say something like "in the third photo."

I listened to her autobiography last year while repainting some of our bedrooms. She was I think 19 during the filming of the first movie, and strikes me as a kid having a great time in Hollywood. (Yeah, I know about the addiction and the nutty family, etc.)

A bunch of these show up (and IIRC several originate from) the ongoing series of "Making-of" books by JW Rinzler. The books for ANH and ESB have already been released, and according to his Twitter feed, the first draft of the ROTJ book should be done soon.
On the one hand, these are run by Lucas for approval, so they gloss over some of the less savory stuff (though not entirely so), but on the other hand he gets access to some pretty cool stuff like the original handwritten notes that were the genesis of the first movies. He did one book for allfour of the Indiana Jones movies, too.

One of Luke's other friends at Tosche Station (and subsequently, the cutting room floor) was Deak, played by Jay Benedict. He was also subsequently cast in Aliens as Newt's father, and then cut out of that film. Dude could not catch a break with sf franchises. I would like to start a rumour that he was also cast in The Wrath of Khan and snipped from that as well.

I figure that Tatooine was really the Viet Nam or Iraq of the Empire- the stormtroopers either stay on base and rot; or they go out to patrol Mos Eisley and the Jawas plant IEDs, and people smuggle contraband droids right under their noses; or they go out to patrol the desert and get shot at by Tuskens, but they never catch them, so they go and burn down some poor bastard's moisture farm instead.
