Bummed out because you missed the Concert for New York City? Well, if you live in the Chicago area, you can still catch Polkas for America this Sunday evening. All proceeds go to the Tribune Disaster Relief Fund.

Oops, make that Sunday morning. By the way, can anyone tell me what a "polka mass" is?

Ten Chicago and northwest Indiana polka bands kick out accordian-driven jams

Man, I love polkas. I'm kind of surprised this isn't being held at the Baby Doll.

John, here is more info than you wanted on the Polka Mass. Fr. Perkovich's recording of a Polka Mass at the Vatican is "considered by many to be the top-selling polka album of recent decades".

Roll out the barrel... for God!

Hey you know how Weird Al Yankovich always does polkas on his CDs? I was watching one of those cheesey Compilation CD commercials on some sucky cable channel the other day and noticed on of the main old time polka guys had the name "Yankovich". Is this more than just a crazy coincidence? Does Weird Al come from a long lineage of Polka-dudes?

No. "Weird Al" Yankovic (note lack of "h" at the end) is not related to Frankie Yankovic, one of the polka greats of all time. Of course, no one holds a candle to Larry Zebbart, Polka King of Modern Times.

I only saw bits and pieces of the Concert for NYC....I wonder if they'll edit out the audience reception to Hillary Clinton on the CBS re-broadcast....?
