A Novel idea. "Remote Sensing...provide service on remote sensing and its application to the satellite imagery map, as a core service system of remote sensing in Korea." This is just .01% viewing area of most countries' spying capabilities.

This is pretty old technology.

With imaging spectrometers (aka hyperspectral imagers), a great deal of detail of the chemical composition of the ground can be detected from the air or space. Automated maps of every material on the ground can be constructed automatically. The premeir instrument for doing this is the NASA JPL AVIRIS sensor, which recorords 224 "colors" for each pixel on the ground.

These techniques have been used in the civillian community to map toxic waste deposits. AFAIK the military is not using it yet.
