Awww, that's sweet. Funny, I *love* watching him in movies and this never clicked with me.

He pretty much just does that one little James Brown-y kinda funky chicken routine. But he does it well, for sure. He fuckin' rocked in that Gong Show movie. And was the best thing about Matchstick Men.

Love this. Sam Rockwell manages to take the best qualities of Gary Cole, Scott Bakula, and David Arquette and turn them into something truly sublime.

Sam Rockwell is one of those actors I love. I've followed him since he stole the absolute shit out of Galaxy Quest and totally killed in an otherwise boring movie in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. His Green Mile performance just showed how much he cared about an otherwise forgettable role.
I love actors who fucking act. Sam Rockwell acts.
His dancing is the cherry on top of that particular sundae for me.
/still hasn't seen Moon, and will rectify that next week.

Some of those clips are from a Confessions of a Dangerous Mind special feature that is just Rockwell dancing. I bought CoaDM from a bargain bin a few years ago and for a month or so afterward, I watched that clip every day.
ROCKWELL.

Sadly, Netflix doesn't have 'Moon', for streaming. Surely you're not suggesting using an unreliable plastic disk full of advertising? That is so last century.

Today, going down the Wikipedia rabbit hole (A beautiful mind > Chuck Barris > Gong Show > Gene, Gene, Dancing Machine, I learned that Gene, Gene, Dancing Machine is still alive, but now has prosthetic legs.

Love Sam Rockwell. Lawn Dogs is just terrific. But this video is going to end up with me in hospital when I try and copy some of the moves drunk at 3AM.

I worked as a postproduction intern on a movie in which Sam Rockwell appeared. I have never seen someone catch so many Goobers in their mouth. His aim was most impressive.
Also, he was a sweet, sweet guy.

an otherwise boring movie in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.
Confessions is one of my favourite films ever and makes me sad that Sam Rockwell doesn't get to be the lead in films more often.
Also, this montage A) makes me happy and B) reminded me that the movie Matchstick Men exists.

Watching the clips from Confessions mixed with his other movies made me realize that Sam Rockwell was bred to play Chuck Barris.

Can any dance experts recommend a course of study that would lead to being able to dance like Sam Rockwell in the "Confessions" clip?

Not viewable on mobile. Weird. Crazy-assed posters.
Moon probably turned my opinion of him. I'd only seen him here and there (not seen Dangerous Mind or Matchstick Men) and always found him .... peculiar. I tended to feel either I was seeing the actor there (not the role), or he was extremely limited, or so heavily typecast he got a very narrow range of roles. Then I seen Moon, and was amazed. It is a great movie, and he is great in it. You will still definitely know who the actor is -- his personality I think can't be suppressed that far -- but it is a great performance. Now I want to see some more of him. I might yet become a convert.

Moon was available to stream on Netflix and sat unwatched on my Instant Queue for the longest time and now it's gone and GODDAMNIT METAFILTER.
Amazon will sell it to you right now for $9.99 but I'd probably need to watch the dancing video again to be convinced to do that.

Yeah, he does go back to that excellent move over and over, but when you look closely, he does that move in character. Check out how out of control and white-man underbite Chuck is, compared to smoooooove dude from some of the other films. He switches it up in character. Fucking awesome.
