The Canadian ones were delightfully incomprehensible and led me to googling many entertaining things, yay!

Relatedly, I am so glad there are finally velocipedestrienne shirts in the shop.

The thought of Elizabeth I saying "YOLO" through her sugar-rotted teeth made me snicker. Great link.

Bonus: Apples do not fall out of oak trees.

Obviously you don't play Minecraft.

I feel certain that the fact that I understood almost none of those jokes means I have to give up my Canadian citizenship.

But if I can just hold out until November 7th, I should be able to get a good price for it.

The cold was fierce, and I barely recall how I murdered Sled Dog Stan

Oh god, I am weeping with laughter at my desk here.

I love that she presented several quizzes. But every day when I check her site, I wish wholeheartedly that she'd present a comic.

British Columbia had a premier who changed his name to Amor de Cosmos, "Lover of the Universe"

I am cackling obscenely and really annoying my (American) roommate by saying things like, "Ohmygod, One Nation Underneath Santa AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH."

I know that this isn't really that remarkable to anyone but me, but something remarkable happened this year! Kate Beaton, who I've been following for years started cultivating a friendship with Scott C, who I've been following separately for years (since he started running a comic strip at Double Fine Productions). The day that I saw tweets from both their accounts talking about visiting Mabou N.S. blew my mind. They've formed a webcomic dream team you guys!

British Columbia had a premier who changed his name to Amor de Cosmos, "Lover of the Universe"

His Wikipedia entry even reads like a Kate Beaton cartoon:

Although widely regarded as a stirring orator, effective debater, and a man of great intellectual depth, De Cosmos had always been considered eccentric. Contemporaries paint a portrait of an isolated person (he never married and had few intimate friends) with grandiose manners, prone to public outbursts of tears, and a fierce temper that sometimes degenerated into fist-fights.

KokuRyu: "Kate Beaton is the Lynn Johnston of our generation."

What, destined to drive the strip down a Gary Stu path that has the fans crying no no oh god no more moustache-man please stop working our your failed marital issues in the comic strip?

Surely not.

I feel bad about being cruel and dismissive, but god that strip went to hell.

I'm going to guess that Kate Beaton is more in Lexica's camp than KokuRyu's.
