It happens after you've ran out of things to talk about with your partner, after you get your sh*t together and have talked about plans for a family. It is time to get engaged, send out the invitations, and start planning the wedding. NSFW audio

Why do there types of YouTube series always use such blatant overacting? I'm asking earnestly-- it's apparently a convention, but I'm wondering why. The actors probably have a good reason for doing it, but I always feel like they're trying to hit me over the head with the performance.

Is it because they are theatre actors? If you are trained to stage, but not screen, this can lead to apparent overacting.

Hey, the blond friend in the TMI video is Mikala Bierma, who does very funny satires of web shows or vlogs or whatever they're called.

this non talking is why god invented texting. you sit and text while your partner does so too. No need to chat

What if your partner thinks that's rude? What if you agree with her?

That's something to talk about, at least.

I noticed the overacting in the first video, but the writing, pacing, shooting, and genial-enough stars were enough to make me forgive it. It's better by the second video. I think these are pretty dang good. maybe I just wish I had a cute girl who would write and star in silly videos with me

They really do get progressively better. The "get engaged" one made me snarf. Great find, thanks!

Acting is really hard and your typical YouTube series can only afford/find mediocre actors? Also most of these videos tend to be comedic and comedic acting tends to be more broad and exaggerated.

The one with the 'get your sh*t together' totally hit it spot on for me.

I do not give a shit about your kids.

Guys, the trick to not running out of things to talk about is to keep doing new things. And reading books. And reading MetaFilter.

I related to some of these way more than I'd like to admit.

We have a chair covered in bras.

He: God dammit, it is just unacceptably rude of us to be sitting here texting all the time.
She: I know, right? People like us drive me up the fucking wall.
They do not move

I don't call that overacting. It's just theatrical convention. There are plenty of times when it's appropriate.

(I'm serious about reading MetaFilter, by the way. It's surprising how many conversations with my wife begin with me saying: "I read this thing on MetaFilter...")

I couldn't watch the videos until today -- and now that I have (I saw the one about not having something to talk about): that is not overacting. That was pretty damn subtle and very good. I didn't entirely relate (my SO and I *never* run out of stuff to say, when we do, buy the Devil a parka), but it was very subtly done. The only thing less over-acted that I could imagine would be one of those robot-voiced videos.

seriously, we don't want all acting to be robot-voice.

My SO and I, for example, talked about that video.
