The sample GIF for #4 is standard output from a regular T1-weighted MRI scan. Our computers have the software for making these installed by default. Next time you're getting your brain scanned, ask the technician for one of these as a souvenir.

I liked the sense of power conveyed in the tiger GIF.

I think I'm going to spend all night making GIFs for the NYPL. Thanks.

What's the tiger one supposed to show? The loop seems very short

Yeah, I'm a little bugged by the tiger gif actually. I think it'd be much better even if they'd just increased the frame delay like this.

But then I'm picky and opinionated so.

If we ever get the ability to use avatars beside our user names I call the tiger. I GOT DIBS. Plus I licked it, just to ensure none of you steal my awesome avatar.

IWDRM - lovely stuff. I want to try making these, I especially like the way they capture a particular gesture, and loop it seamlessly. how cool would the tiger one be if it got an entire stride, so it was the tiger running towards you forever

Yeah, I fully expected to see IWDRM in this list.

That Presidential link makes me ill. Are people really this shallow? Or is the media really this manipulative as to make blink-rate, nods and watch-glances supposedly pivotal?

Not sure what counts as 'serious' here, but dvdp is one of the best GIFfers around. Really beautiful geometric movement.
