I'm not a kid, I'M A SHARK

Nimona is the shape-shifting, hell-raising sidekick to Ballister Blackheart, the biggest name in supervilliany.

Created by Gingerhaze, aka Noelle Stevenson, Nimona combines sci-fi and fantasy tropes in a anachronistic universe. Originally Stevenson's senior thesis, the webcomic will be published by HarperCollins in 2015.

I love Nimona! Everybody should read this because it's awesome.

I enjoy following Noelle on twitter because her output ranges from beard commentary to relationship advice to bad art puns.

plus, you know, she reminds her followers when there's a new Nimona page posted, so that's great too.

Second'ing following Noelle Stevenson's twitter feed. She draws some absolutely wonderful bite-sized bits about geek movies and her daily life. See: Badass Scooby Gang.

This is great! I can never keep up with plot-based webcomics though, for some reason... I enjoy chewing through the archives but then once I get to the present and have to wait for installments to dribble out day by day, I just lose interest. Sometimes I will keep it up for a while if the comic updates daily, but even so unless it packs a lot of laughs I have a hard time with it.

I'm gonna give this a try though because it's pretty awesome.

Her Hobbit doodles are pretty awesome as well. Her take on Thranduil is hilarious.

Added to bookmarks. At least until I find out what the deal with Sir Goldenloin's codpiece is.

This is okay, but not *stellar*. Ballister Blackheart seems like kind of a schmuck. In the first four or so chapters they don't do a lot to establish his villain credentials.

This is good. I think Ballister Blackheart is a fabulous. There is a lot of subtly in the framing of his character.

Visually, it's very Beaton-esque, in a good way. This is, I guess, the hip way to draw cartoons? If so, huzzah. And just love Nimona's body-shape. It's so normal. And the way she sits and jumps and squirms and her angry bloody-jawed canine form... So delightful.

I'm glad to see Noelle getting some love. I'm a huge fan of her work (I also built her new website) and always enjoy seeing her get some props.

Gingerhaze's Tumblr is a wonderful "follow" - lots of terrific nerdy sketches in addition to Nimona comics. She is a great artist. I'm really excited for the Nimona graphic novel!

Ballister Blackheart seems like kind of a schmuck. In the first four or so chapters they don't do a lot to establish his villain credentials.

He and Goldenlion seem to be working together to undermine the police state - he's not an actual villain, tho he does some ethically questionable things.

This will lead to an interesting conflict once Nimona, who is a bloodthirsty villain, realizes her idol has been using her for his good-guy schemes and has her close by his side to keep a powerful threat to the kingdom under control... Nimona herself.

At least that's the way I've been reading it. There is a stark difference between Blackheart and Nimona, who actually relishes using her powers to kill, and seeks more power and more opportunities to wield it. She's written as a charming manic pixie girl, but she's bad news to the core; a very interesting character.

Blackheart is totally operating on the "resisting a corrupt authority" clause in the Paladin's code.
