I saw the trailer, and it looks terrible, but Lilo & Stitch and How To Train Your Dragon were neither of them terrible, so now I am conflicted.

Yeah, there's a reason I didn't link to the trailer.

I love Chris Sanders work. I'm not sure what else to say, other than thanks!

For those who want to see more of his work, and who are maybe a little disappointed with the lack of a gallery on the website, Mr Sanders has also maintained a DeviantArt account, full of interesting things (including female nudes, a side to his work that doesn't feature in his mass market children's work for obvious reasons).

There's something just creepy about the character design in THE CROODS. I can't put my finger on it.

There's something just creepy about the character design in THE CROODS. I can't put my finger on it.

It's the uncanny valley, where the textures of the skin and shape of the face look close to human, but not quite. No doubt it's about making the characters look more "cave man" like, but design wise it looks creepy. Add on the fact that the story seems to be overly sweet and trite and the visual look just fails.

I'm more bothered by the reference to 4 million years ago. The first species of Homo are only from about 2.4 million years ago. How do we expect our kids to properly understand paleontology if we give them inaccurate dating like this?

Yeah, Brandon, I think part of it is the generic CG cartoon human design mixed with the caveman-style brows. Just... *shudder*

The woman in the storyboards looks distractingly pinup-y, but I think that's preferable to the half-human horrors they ended up with.

There are some cute and somewhat Stitchish sketches in the blog post before the story boards on other Crood related stuff.

I've seen the trailer, and I'm mixed. In the end, though, he's done some great work, so I'll probably give the Croods the benefit of the doubt.

Wikipedia suggests that there are 6 speaking roles -- and 3 are for female characters voiced by women. In an animated film! That will probably tip me over into watching it in a theatre unless it gets really dreadful reviews.
