English king Richard III enjoyed a Machiavellian but short lived rise to power which became the subject of the Shakespeare play. Edward died in April 1483 and his skeleton, found beneath a Leicester car park has been confirmed by DNA analysis. Richard was the last Plantagenet King of England.
