Two tastes that taste great together

"Metaldudes Cats Book challenges stereotypes of masculinity and the metal culture in general. Now... I think we can all agree that cat photos and videos are a pretty integral part of the internet these days, so it feels a little pointless to describe why you might want to look at more cute cats. DUH! However: Metaldudes Cats Book combines three loves that have a global reach: Kitties, Metal, and Duuuudes." Although metal and cats are not a new combination on the internet, photographer Alexandra Crockett wants to take metal + felines to the next level. The AVClub has more.

Mod note: Looks like the fundraiser has closed, so this post can rock on.

Metalheads look scary, but they're basically nerds. Hell what little metal I've listened to has lyrical references that are so nerdy they'd make Rivers Cumo or They Might Be Giants blush. So of course they'd be into cats.

Challenges? Really? C'mon. It's a book with pictures of cute guys and their cute kitties. Whee.

Oh sure, she thinks it is cute that metal guys have cats. It is true though, they are like nerds that have evolved elaborate defense mechanisms. Like 3/4 of metal is about LOTR right?

There's specific LOTR metal, but you don't even have to dig at all. I've got a cursory knowledge of metal, and Iron Maiden have at least one song recapping the plot of Dune. Metallica have one about Cthulhu, Bolt Thrower are licensed by Games Workshop, and Manowar just sing about Vikings.

I was expecting this to be referenced somewhere.

I'm a little surprised that you could leave this out from your post. (SLYT)

Yeah, A significant portion of the programmers I have worked with were into metal. One office had a few so they had a playlist and cranked metal all day. When any manowar song came on the guy next to me stopped working and did this sign of the hammer thing. I miss those guys.

I think The Blue might be all catted out today, so I might leave this here:
A Photographic Journey of a Grandma and Her Cat.

Yeah, metal dudes are either those guys that weren't trusted with the sharp equipment in metal shop, or the people with orcs or hobgoblins covering their notebooks.

Bolt Thrower are licensed by Games Workshop

Not quite. Their first two albums had WH40K artwork and themes, but they've long since moved on.

Anyway, metal has never been cool or hip or popular, apart from that unfortunate period in the eighties when hair metal ruled, has always been something you had to seek out, you couldn't get into following the herd. It's no wonder than that metal dudes are into cats, as you have to work at it to get a cat to like you and they're just as independent and proud as the music is.

Not like dogs, the ultimate herd animal, ready to love any fool who comes around and gladly eat their own shit, analogy left unspoken there.

This just in: Games Workshop is suing Bolt Thrower for use of the term "Bolt Thrower".
Extra: Games Workshop is suing Metafilter for use of the term "Games Workshop".

I think you'll find that was a yoga class. Metal yoga is the new thing.

Metal yoga is the new thing.

MAN-O-WAR IS REAL TRUE METAL.
METAL DOES NOT BEND OR FLEX.

(Except for aluminium, which is for pussies)
