Catching wild rabbits using snakes.

"In this video Andrew Ucles teaches you how to perform rabbit hunting using his unique understanding of predator-prey relationships. Watch as Andrew collects 4 of Australia's most venomous snakes and uses them to his advantage versus the wild European rabbit to capture one of the world's hardest to catch vermin. This type of rabbit snare is unique as it requires patience to trap and catch small game, but nonetheless an effective method to capture small animals.

The rabbit was released safely and unharmed."

Andrew Ucles has a website with many more videos of animal capture-and-describe (mouseover the video thumbnails for the animal) in his...unique style.

A survival tip for those stuck in the wilderness with no food or equipment and can easily catch and handle multiple venomous snakes but refuse to eat snakes.

Well he's bloody doing it wrong then.

I would not characterize that rabbit as "released safely and unharmed" unless Andrew went down into its home and de-snaked it. Not that that doesn't sound plausible.

I think I'd prefer to starve to death, thanks.

So, I guess, if I find myself in Australia with a handful of snakes and some netting, I can use that to get a rabbit...

Whats wrong with using the snakes to kill the camera man and eating him ?

Holy god, that shaky-cam is annoying. It's the high-frequency shaking, I think, it makes it impossible to focus on anything.

This sort of thing is why I just don't go into the wilderness to begin with. I live in a city! We have restaurants!

If I'm hearing him correctly, he's saying red-bellied black snake, which he's claiming is one of the most venomous in the world. Wikipedia, on the other hand, says "Though its venom is capable of causing significant morbidity, a bite from it is not generally fatal and less venomous than other deadly Australian snakes."

So, he might be exaggerating a tiny bit for effect. Not that I'd grab one of those, much less three.

All you folks saying that you would do it differently will change your tune, when Obama takes all your guns away like they did in Australia.

Obama's also banning knives and string, so don't get any big ideas

The whole snake charming act is an impressive bit of theatre, but experts have found it is much safer and more effective to use the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch in neutralizing the threat of a vicious bunny.

On the videos page, he also catches...a hawk....using roadkill. Dude is definitely something different.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day
Teach a man to hunt rabbits with venomous snakes and I will give you props for creativity while backing slowly away, trying not to make any sudden moves or loud noises.

Another way to catch rabbits barehanded is to get between them and their burrow. As a kid growing up on a farm I discovered that rabbits have very little endurance. If you're chasing one in an open field and can stay close enough to them that they don't get a chance to rest and catch their breath, they run out of steam in 5/10 minutes and you can walk right up and grab them. No poisonous snakes or special nets required.

I remember seeing a video of a guy who would catch rabbits by walking around and aligning himself straight on, then running right at them, and as soon as they moved, he'd break left or right at a 45 degree angle and catch them about 20% of the time (since he'd break the way the rabbit went about 50% of the time).

I remember seeing a video of a rabbit who ate itty carrots, but it was not so exciting.

I'm at work and can't watch this with the sound on, but do I understand correctly that his unique understanding of predator-prey relationships is that prey would like to get the fuck away from predators?

OK everyone, KokoRyu wrote the best sentence ever; we can just stop writing things now, it's all downhill from this point on.

Joakim Ziegler, I think he's saying that the tiger snake is the fourth most venomous snake. I don't know if it's that bad but the snake is big, aggressive, and the venom is pretty toxic and voluminous. Really not worth the risk to catch a rabbit.

Australia has incredibly great Chinese food, not to mention excellent meat pies. Why not just call for delivery?

I don't really understand the connection between wildlife conservation and harassment, but this guy is doing an excellent job on the harassment side of things. Check out his "best of" video!

And Germany is just over the border! It's the goddamned Fifth Reich - don't tell me you weren't warned.
