Usually it's about the graphics, not networking, though; stuff about how the game is "not optimized". Though overestimating the part taken by the engine is a classic.

Man. I wish I was young enough to treat laziness with such contempt. Time for my afternoon nap..

Basically everyone that plays Wanderer these days is going to be connecting to the internet using cable, DSL, or fiber to the home (FTTH). Not TCP-IP.

There was a minor lulzing.

My fave is the "STEAM FROZE MY ACCOUNT" rant complete with later sheepish admission that the ranger was doing something clearly against terms and conditions and/or given five minutes Valve sorted it out anyway.

If anyone was curious why I chose to come moderate Metafilter flamewars rather than game forums...

So, in short, avoid forums on the Ides of March. Right. Got that.

When is Metafilter going to add massively co-op mode? It's not like they'd have to build a brand-new website. You just make the existing posts, comments, and links appear in everyone's browser at the same time and you're basically done.

Cooperative mode is one tab over in Ask.

Actually the part of the article I chuckled at was, "@SirMustache I'm not even going to bother responding to this," because I had seen this same thing happen in a MetaFilter thread not two minutes earlier.

"You just make the existing polygons, textures, and pixels appear in everyone's game at the same time and you're basically done." is going to be my new delicious, delicious response whenever someone points out that some requested development task is non-trivial.

I'm holding out for massive pony mode.

Also, just in case anyone was unclear on this score, no one ever deletes their account, and the average time to slip back in quietly is 72 hours.

We had one user on one of our games that flounced so regularly that we kept a tally on the whiteboard. When I left the company a year later, she was still playing (and posting.)

"Anyone who has programmed before knows this isn't a big deal. "

For what it's worth, I have totally internalized this. I work at an agency with a major iOS component, and I am thoroughly guilty of the "what? That's, like, totally doable" line of thought with no real knowledge of what's actually involved.

Internet jokes: totally educational as a reality check. Sometimes.

Seeing these kinds of posts (in a non-satirical fashion) on Planetside 2 forums despite the thing still being a perpetual-beta game, crowd sourced through weapon purchases. I mean, when the (free to play) game has a 12 month roadmap, the expectations ought not be particularly high.

This could have used a little more subtlety, I thought at first, then I remembered the PM that said it should not take me too long to port an app to a completely new platform, since it took him no more than a couple of days to copy paste and edit the spec.

This literally came out of his mouth: Doesn't your code editor have copy and paste? You should switch to Word.

Some users file bugs in the actual database that look like this, and not just on games, on any software. Some experts on top secret private beta lists write stuff like this. I've definitely seen cases where the user's feature request or pet hate bug would have been tackled if they only weren't being so rude.

No, it's not a horse. It's a pony, just bigger. A bigger pony. You can't just throw in a horse and call it a day. This is the kind of sloppiness that is killing Metafilter.
