Beetlejuice... Beetlejuice....

Pretty much the best Minecraft rollercoaster ever made. (Warning: Dubstep) Also from the same people.

This was actually made on the xbox version in creative mode-- and if you've ever played it, you'd know how difficult that must have been.

Interestingly, making rollercoasters was one of the early Minecraft design goals.

That was incredible. I was completely disoriented more than once.

(Also, Beetlejuice is one of my favoritest movies ever. My wife and I still frequently quote Lydia's suicide note.)

That's pretty awesome, not only for the dedication to building on the 360, but keeping to a theme based on a 25 year old movie/24 year old cartoon. Xbox Minecraft is pretty hamstrung when it comes to options, especially in light of all the newer mods and tools that come out for the original. I've become so acclimatized to the Xbox version that looking at the original and all its mods and adventure maps seems like another world to me.

I actually managed to get Tekkit installed, but the sound was messed up and I couldn't figure out how to turn of creative mode - every time I went to look up a recipe, it just made me a stack of whatever I was trying to look up. Cheaty fun for the first 15 minutes of falling through holes made by a Destruction Catalyst, but not so great long term.

Jaw-dropping. I'd love to see a 10,000 foot view of the whole thing.

A quick YouTube search indicates that MineCraft haunted houses and amusement parks are a thing, but nothing in the top results I found comes close to this level of polish.

I should have had my morning coffee before watching that. Head spinning.

That was incredible. I say that both as a Minecraft fan and somebody who loves Beetlejuice. That dubstep remix of the theme was great.

Also the sheer amount of work that obviously went into that! And they did it in two months? Simply remarkable.

Is that what it actuaaly would look like to ride through it in the Xbox version, or was there some kind of rendering engine involved?
posted by Horace Rumpole at 5:16 AM on March 21, 2013

I think they must have carefully rehearsed where they were looking as they rode along, in order for certain optical illusions to work, but apart from that it looks pretty legit to me. I don't see how you could mess with the XBox's rendering.

Holy crap. This is incredible.

The fact that they did this in the XBox version is just fucking incredible.

Pretty much the best Minecraft rollercoaster ever made.

This is a little like linking to a video and calling it "Pretty much the cutest baby ever." There might not be quite as many Minecraft rollercoaster videos as cute baby videos, but in neither case do I believe you've seen even a thousandth of them.

But wow, that is a super-cute baby.

It's the xbox thing that puts it over the top for me. There are people doing lots of crazy things with MC, but making that with just a controller? Makes my hands cramp up in sympathy.

Well this makes me feel like a Minecraft slacker, in addition to all the other kinds of slacker I already feel like. YOU BASTARDS!

Loved this! Even the music. (I don't know from Skrillex, but if all dubstep sounds like that, consider me a non-hater.)

I don't have strong feelings about dubstep one way or the other, but I do find dubstep bashing more obnoxious than "FUCK YEAH DUBSTEP". The complaining from Front Line Assembly fans about the wubs on some of the tracks on their new album was aggravating as hell.

Looks like someone hooked up Tim Burton's brain to a computer. Again!

There's a Beware the Wub joke in there somewhere, I just know it...

Also, this is amazing. And I am very conscious that I am a giant snob for being surprised that it was made on the Xbox Minecraft.

Building something like that on the Xbox not only means that you have to use the controller solely, but you're not using any third-party tools like MCEdit to help. That's some serious dedication there. I've been making Minecraft dark rides for a while now as a funtime stress-relief hobby, and I am very impressed with the number of tricks used in the design. Well played; very well played indeed. Now I'm going to go back and throw some fun black-and-white moire effects in the current project.

I was so annoyed I parodied Phil Ochs:
I love that KMFDM
their metal sounds just like a war
I love Nine Inch Nails and Apop
listening never was a chore
But don't add any dubstep to Front Line
that's going a little too far
So love me, love me, love me, I'm a rivethead!
Then I realized that I'm using a political folk song to make a joke about industrial music, and it wouldn't make that much sense unless you were familiar with both. That's the key to success: incredibly tiny niches!

Reminded me of this classic Goldfrapp video - come to think of which: anybody done it in Minecraft yet?

Speaking of Minecraft videos, I recently stumbled across the guys from HatFilms and enjoy their brand of jocular banter quite a bit. The Epic Hatventure series has kept me amused for hours.

I happen to like a bit of WUBWUB and wasn't aware of the new FLA, so thanks!
