Iain M. Banks is Dying

Iain M. Banks, author of the "Culture" novels, has announced he has only a few months to live. Banks, who also writes general fiction under the name Iain Banks, has been diagnosed with late-stage gall bladder cancer.

This makes me terribly sad. Banks is one of the few science fiction authors I still read. I love the "Culture" novels. He's a wonderful writer.
