The art of Omar Rayyan "Rayyan’s artwork includes fantasy-inspired paintings of dragons, mythological creatures set against a backdrop of seemingly ordinary buildings and people, works of abstraction such as the teapot hat on a man drinking a cup of tea in “Mists of Oolong,” and all manner of woodland creatures as one might expect to find in an animated Disney film or a children’s book of fairy tales."

At first, I wanted to say that the 17th-century octopus contessa dressed in her finest court attire, with her beloved squid wasn't exactly something you'd find in a Disney film, but then I remembered Ursula. Not quite the same thing, but then again, not completely different.

This is really neat stuff. There must be something about artists with names that match the regular expression `Omar (Kh|R)ayya(m|n)`. They're two for two so far.

I hear they're also great shipbuilders - they make a hell of a yacht.

...and the reason one might expect to find him in a children's book of fairy tales is that he does, in fact, appear in children's literature. We first found him in Babybug, of all places, where he so out-classed the other artwork that it was a little embarrassing. His work is almost hypnotic, as you stare at, say, the animal fur and note just how many different tints he has incorporated.

I have no idea how these people got their turtles wedged into a tree, or why.

Besides the obvious tea.

I think I may have to get a liquor cabinet just so I can adorn it with a print of Acorn Brandy.

I am also pretty certain this will cause me to embarrass myself with the exclamation "I wanna get drunk with squirrels!" sometime in the near future.

Exactly what I was thinking, legospaceman - maybe a little Beatrix Potter too. Totally hitting the childhood nostalgia button - but then there's the woman with the squid head...
