Cameo By A Pit Bull Dressed As A Hammerhead

I saw a gif of this not long ago. Why do I find the gif version so much more satisfying? Is it simply the nature of gifs?

The overlap in the Venn Diagram for "cats who will tolerate costumes" and "cats who will tolerate Roombas" either has to be vanishingly small or near 100%.

Or maybe that cat is doped up on catnip.

Also: Cats who don't murder little birds.

The dog's name is apparently sharky, which puts this over the top, in my opinion. Wait, no. Everything puts it over the top.

I won't be impressed until they teach the duck to bite the cats tail.
posted by QueerAngel28 at 5:37 PM on April 23, 2013

In what way is the cat chasing the duck? The cat is quite happy (for certain values of happy) on the roomba. I am not at all convinced that the cat is controlling the roomba, nor that it is making any attempt whatsoever to chase the duck.

Quite the reverse.
posted by motty at 5:38 PM on April 23, 2013 [5 favorites]

Oh hell nah. I bought a Roomba a while back in an attempt to keep the kitchen floor constantly swept. My cat didn't fear it. My cat didn't go into predator mode and do her chittering noise. No, she went into full-on Robot Wars search and destroy. She had no other emotions visible, no irritated lashing of tail, nothing. Just this look in her eyes, of blood lust and cleaning appliance disassembly. I've never seen anything like it before or since. And she could fuck that Roomba's shit UP. After just three outings it looked like it had done service as a bomb robot in a failed defusing.

I put it on Craigslist after just a week and took a 75% price hit. I don't think I'll ever try that again.

The duckling understands that the best place to, ahem, poop, is where the Roomba has just been (57 seconds into the video)...

Okay, at the very end? When it's just the long shot of the dog and the cat looking into the camera? I have no idea how, but that cat - sitting on a Roomba with a shark costume on - managed to somehow still look dignified.
posted by EmpressCallipygos at 5:46 PM on April 23, 2013 [12 favorites]

The first comment nails it -- the best part is actually after the Roomba stops.

The cat just sits there and looks at the camera, like, "I know you're the one who makes this thing go, so get on it already. I'm waiting."

The dog watches for a while, then it seems to realize that the cat is waiting for the person, so it sits down and joins in the accusatory stare.

Meanwhile the duck is doing circles around the Roomba, like "Go! Go! Go! Why isn't this thing chasing me any more?"

Like Motty, I, too, think the CIASORAR (Cat in a shark outfit riding a Roomba) is more, um, "intermittently accompanying" the duck than "chasing" it.
posted by Mister Moofoo at 5:50 PM on April 23, 2013

In what way is the cat chasing the duck?

Indeed. It seemed rather that the cat was dejected by watching that Ze Frank duck penis video and was trying to escape in a not-very-effective fashion.

I'm sorry, but this is seriously, seriously irresponsible and is a 100% guaranteed death sentence for that duckling.

If you know anything about young birds, they imprint very easily on the thing they see most -- not first. Did you see a mama duck in that video? No. Therefore that ducked is almost certain to run up to the first real shark it sees and say, "Are you my mommy?"

Totally irresponsible.

I'm reminded of the Arthur C Clarke story "The Nine Billion Names of God", where Tibetan monks use a supercomputer to identify every name of God, and it turns out that's the mission of the human race, and God starts shutting down the universe.

I expect that servers will start going off-line any time now.

It looks like dinner time by the way both the cat and the dog are licking their chops. Is this some sort of old-time Salvation Army pre-meal service/shark fetish mash-up?

I'm afraid I don't know how to work the duckling into this comment, however.

Agree that the shark-cat and Roomba don't really seem to be chasing the duck; if anything, the duck seems to be following them at least half the time. Still, this is the best thing I've seen on the Internet all week, perhaps all month, rivaled for comedy value only by the ferrets frolicking in packing peanuts.

Also, and this is my first time for this, so please be gentle with me:

Metafilter: A cat dressed as a shark chasing a duckling while riding a Roomba, with a cameo by a pit bull dressed as a hammerhead.
