Why did it have to be snakes?

They told you not to enter.
You, an explorer didn't listen
"I will find out the mystery of snakes."

ROOM OF 1000 SNAKES
(A game, uses FPS controls, make sure to have sound on, requires Unity, probably a decent graphics card, and some appreciation for silliness.)

I think you just wrote the walkthrough, es_de_bah.

I was going to complain about the FPS controls, having to use the mouse with the ARROW keys (and not the WASD keys like a "real" FPS) and then the spacebar, E and F keys just made for difficult gameplay.

Then I died.

I took a room rapidly filling with snakes to remind me that I kind of like that Verve song.

WASD worked just fine for me. I made it all the way to the lyrics before getting snakepiled.

The only way to win is not to play.

Bittersweet Snakephony.

'Cause it's a bittersnake symphony, this life
Try to mash the F key
Take some snakes to the face then you die

If I were given the choice between one and the other, sure ...

I also appreciated that the sand texture had watermarks.

I've played it several times just in case there's a way to avoid "dying with the snakes." Even my somewhat formidable keypressing abilities were not enough to hit the F key fast enough to avoid suffosnaketion.

1. They DID tell you not to enter. You just had to find out the mystery of snakes.

2. One of Unity's lasting legacies may be that it makes creating 3D games simple enough that people can throw together quickie one-joke "games" like this rapidly.

3. It's possible to survive quite long into the song, not if you hit the F-key fast enough... but if your browser loads the death Tumblr message slowly enough that the snakeulation has time to continue.

4. RobotHero is correct, the sand texture has watermarks in it. I would have noticed except my face was full of snake. (There's a Metafilter tagline if there ever was one.)

5. I admit it, I had a gigglefit the first time I played this. I really think someone should point this out to John Oliver, who appears, from The Bugle, to have an appreciation for the silly-value of the word snake. He probably could use a distraction from preparing for hosting Daily Show around now.

6. The death page has a 90s design aesthetic that reminds me greatly of the similar, classic, venerable Find The Spam.

sooooo many snaaaaakesss!

I laughed, thanks :D

Indeed Unity makes games like this relatively easy to throw together. It's really amazing for prototyping ideas rapidly, once you are familiar with the workflow. They recently made publishing on both Android and iOS free as well.

Yay for JHarris remembering to flag it as a Unity app! I get SOOOO tired of going over to see some new multimedia marvel, and clicking, and cussing, and refreshing, only to give it up as I happened to be rocking Linux that day.

Yep, I make sure to flag all necessary platforms these days.

Dude. I was actually a little bit nervous when the game started. Smoke started coming out of the holes and it started shaking, and I was like OH NO SNAKES ARE COMING AREN'T THEY. And then it wasn't so bad, but I died.

I think the best thing about it, essential to the mood, is that they aren't angry snakes. They're just snakes. They even look somewhat friendly. It's their numbers alone that do you in, you're simply overwhelmed by snake.

Though it's also fun to see some new multimedia marvel, learn that it was written for a platform that you actually have, click, cuss, and refresh, only to discover that it's not that unity.
