I misplaced my headphones the other day, so I tossed in some foam earplugs for the train ride to work today and it was amazing. I think I'm going to make it a habit.

As a native New Yorker... these people have got to be kidding me on at least half of those locations on the map. Union Square as a quiet place? Anywhere on the East River near the bridges? Are these people partially deaf?

Awesome! Reminds me I really need to get to Roosevelt Island one of these days, it's been on my list for years.

The Society for the Suppression of Unnecessary Noise. Great interview/article on the artist/historian Hillel Schwarz and his relationship to Noise in New York.
