It's been one of the most popular rides in the park

This escalator takes people both up and down. Megan Lee of the Casper Star Tribune updated her earlier report on escalators in Wyoming with a trip to the Hilltop National Bank (and Amusement Park.) Watch her escalate with abandon in the video.

I don't believe Megan Garber, the Atlantic writer who posted this today, has any connection to Megan Lee of the Casper Star Tribune.

How many Megans does Wyoming have, anyway?

That pneumatic tube access tunnel is pretty awesome too.

per the Governor's office itself, "it is widely assumed that there are no escalators in Wyoming."

Wow, they almost had two escalators and an aircraft carrier!

I mean, the implication that lots of people have considered the question of whether or not there are escalators in Wyoming is hilarious.

FWIW, some older Aircraft Carriers had escalators.

This escalator takes people both up and down.

I was expecting some sort of loop shaped escalator that you could just ride infinitely. If Wyoming did that, they could reduce the number of escalators they needed by a whole 50%.

Sounds like my kind of place... escalators terrify me. They trigger my anxiety, and I need to gingerly wait for them to go by a bit before stepping on. I'm not sure what triggered it; maybe a Cracked article about feet getting caught in escalators and mangled. Maybe the Seinfield joke about 'escalators out of order; temporarilly become stairs. sorry for the convience' but they just bug me.

I'm pretty sure the ghost of Mitch Hedberg would just be wondering why he isn't falling through the ground.

March, 2008, I confirmed at least one set in Casper: http://www.metafilter.com/70280/There-are-no-Escalators-in-Wyoming#2061439

Wow, the building I work in has at least four times as many escalators as Wyoming. And only two fewer Senators!

I can think of at least 2.5 sets escalators in Burlington, VT alone (Burlington Square Mall has a set in back for Macy's and one near the entrance; BTV has a set for the second level, I think), so HA, Wyoming! We have more people than you AND more escalators! AND we come first alphabetically. Ha hA!

In Wyoming we've embraced a Green Technology revolution towards user powered escalators. These devices use the leverage in ones feet and legs to ascend a fixed set of treads. The result is a huge reduction in carbon emissions.

I've been wondering for a while now why down escalators have to be motorized.

I do recall the J.C. Penney escalators, but that building has been down quite a while.

My hometown, first bank and the Answer Girl! I never noticed the lack of escalators growing up but I can't say I'm a huge fan of them, either.

Well, NOW I am thinking about it. Next week: how many revolving doors in Idaho.

Up escalators and slides. Just as much work to use, but quite a lot more fun.

My rather modest hometown in Wisconsin had at least two escalators when I was growing up, one of them a Walgreens and the other, yes, a J.C. Penney. (There are more now, e.g. Sears at the mall, but both of those are gone.) All you need is two levels. Casper definitely has taller buildings downtown. So, huh.

First Liz Cheney and now this. It's been a rough week for other peoples' perceptions of Wyoming, NOT THAT WE CARE WHAT YOU THINK ANYWAY!
