Caterpillars Turning Into Butterflies

Well now you've gone and ruined the ending, why should I watch this?

Caterpillar-Scan.com is one of the strangest sites I've seen in some time. I have no idea how these people got their caterpillars wedged into their scanners, or why.

As a Lepidoptera-interested person, I feel that 1) I love this and 2) I am so sick of blue morphos and painted ladies, god, so sick.

So I've got this vague unformed idea (useful for absolutely nothing, except maybe a sci-fi short story) that caterpillars that somehow knew what was happening to them wouldn't think of butterflies as their "adult forms." Instead, given the extent to which caterpillars' original bodies dissolve, they'd think of butterflies as ghosts.

And it's a butterfly at last.

Honestly, my first reaction was "Way to ruin the magic."

Yeah, i know. Science. Finding out how the world works. INQUIRY!

Still…

Holy crap that's cool. I was taught the "everything dissolves into a soup and gets reconstructed" which always seemed a bit deus ex machina to me. As always Science! is much cooler than we can imagine.

This is, indeed, excellent - because there is a lot of high octane stupid out there in the creationism community regarding the transformation of caterpillars into butterflies. Hopefully this will help people understand that it isn't magic. hopefully.*
*I am not that hopeful.

This is great! No longer to we have to believe the lies and folklore created from our teachers. Are eyes are now wide open. Isn't science great!

Science is better than magic.

Magic is limited by our imagination. Science allows things even weirder than that.
