Ah yes. I remember watching and thinking 'maybe, just maybe someday graphics will be this good on computers at home'.

And that's sort of the reason, with regard to the point made in the Gameological article that surely kids would prefer just playing a computer game rather than a TV approximation. Computer games at the time looked like shit in comparison.

Can someone update with a link when this goes live? I will be away and have only a wee bit of internet access. I love, love, love me some Knightmare!

And yet, having watched a couple of episodes of this, there is something there lacking in most computer games now. It's not just kitsch, there is something else.

Oh totally, theres a lot going on in it. The main one being the elements of team work and interaction. Human actors do change things, and add a delightful flavour to the show. It was an unfailingly mean program: there are a couple of times where Tregard says "oh dear team, if only you'd picked up the sand timer on level one, that would've saved you from the troll!".

When I was a teenager myself and some friends corresponded with Tim Child, the creator of Knightmare. At the time he was shipping around a pilot, which this might have been. Sadly he never had that commissioned. I actually remember watching the much less successful virtually impossible as well, but I think I resented Knightmare being cancelled so much I never gave it much of a chance.

It's here! It's actually remarkably fun, really captures the old series!

I got a reminder link from Cult TV so that's how I spent my morning :)

I have to agree that I was pleasantly surprised, I honestly didn't think they were going to actually have Tregard, he doesn't seem to have aged a day. I would watch the hell out of this as a regular thing. But I think I would want either for there to be a big prize for adult competitors or that it goes back to young adventurers, the hipsters were a little too self-conscious and aware if it being a demo piece. But a thoroughly decent way to spend a mornin and it absolutely didn't hinge fully on nostalgia. Might need to go watch some old eps now.
