GOOD DOG!

Cuuuuute. Though "leap" does not really adequately describe the action of faith I took in clicking this link.

There's a video somewhere of a dog doing this with a big stone stairway. He shoved a ball off the top, and raced to the bottom to catch the ball as it bounced down, then ran back up to the top to do it again.

"guy playing with himself" has a verrrry different meaning to lots of people...I'm very glad this was a cute puppy video and not what I first thought.

That dog is an Aesop fable about self-reliance. I know which story I'll be telling my pup tonight!

Need's SFW tag because I kind of figured it wasn't what it might be..... Mostly.

I've sternly informed my cats that they should spend more time entertaining themselves in this fashion, as opposed to waking me up with a demand to PLAY WITH THE PLASTIC TIE RIGHT NOW. However, the water thing may get in the way.

(Glad to see this was SFW, as the supposedly SFW image search I was running earlier this evening suddenly pulled up MAJOR NSFW in the midst of otherwise totally innocent photos.)

That was amazingly cute. I always enjoy how videos like this have these little moments of tension--like when the ball goes past him and you're not sure whether he's going to jump into the water after it. Will he get his ball or will it be gone forever? It's a real nail-biter.

Oh, come on. To call that "playing with himself" is a stretch. He's just adjusting his ball.

awwwwww

Though "leap" does not really adequately describe the action of faith

there's a leap of faith at around 1:20 when the ball floated out a little far.

Seriously people thought this would be NSFW?

We're not Reddit.

thomas j wise - our cat will sometimes play games by himself ("made up mouse games"), but he will also play the very laziest, cattiest game of fetch. he'll play with his toy and "accidentally" bat it close to you and then walks off nonchalantly while occasionally glancing over his shoulder to see if you've gotten the hint.

he might actually do this too because he's a water cat...now i'm trying to figure out if i can replicate something similar in the tub.

I suddenly feel even more keenly the humiliation of being unable to teach my brother's dog to play fetch.

This is a video of me, as a child. I am a human, by the way.

I was not "playing with myself," a misleading title on two levels.

What I did for thousands of hours as a child was to try to understand the laws of nature. I (and my friends) would build dams of twigs and gravel and mud in the gutter. I would break through the ice of the creek in the back yard; I would watch the creek become a river after a raging Midwestern thunderstorm. Later, I would track opossums and racoons.

I would also test my perceptions and my endurance and my limits. I am lucky to be alive, frankly, thinking about climbing on crumbly limestone cliffs as a teen...

All of these things I see the dog doing in this video. Play is serious stuff, yknowwhadI'msayin'?

We had a Boston way back on the 80's, but Compared to our Boxers he was a very cranky little bugger, always getting in fights with bigger dogs, and losing.

But our Boxers just want to make friends with every dog and human on the planet.

Roswell, our cat who plays fetch, sometimes gives up on me and carries his ball to the hallway, where he sticks his head through the railings of the bannister and drops the toy down....chases it, carries it back up, drops it down again, etc.

I am a terrible person.

The phrase "wins at life" is bandied about so often as to be devoid of meaning, but if ever any creature has truly won at a life, a dog that can play fetch by himself is undoubtably that creature.

What a cute dog and an interesting place.

I would like to visit that interesting place and throw a ball in the water to watch it float.

Preferably with a dog.

He's so *perky*! I want one just like him.

And he's so smart -- he's worked out a solitaire version of Poohsticks.

Cute video.

While at the city shelter to get a cat, we saw one little cat in his 3x3x2 cage who was totally ignoring the people. He had a small rubber ball and he would wallop that ball really hard, it would bounce 3 or 4 times back and forth, he'd catch it, and wallop it again. Cat handball. Kind of sorry that we didn't pick him.
