Is there an arsehole gene?

A (youtube, some language that is NSFW) 'documentary' about the discovery of a new gene responsible for arseholish behaviour. Enjoy.

Yes, I actually learned something from a youtube comment. I'll be over there in the corner, dying now.

My theory that it was a contagious disease has now been debunked. I had been avoiding people because I was afraid I would catch the disease..

Disease? This isn't a sickness. What the video says is that arseholes are born this way. It is not a disease, just one of the very many wonderful, diverse variations of human being, so a little tolerance and compassion and above all, acceptance of these people is required. Arseholes also need legal protection from bigoted nice people who would refuse them jobs and equal opportunity. And no more use of the word "arsehole" as a pejorative.

Overall, it's very funny. It's very impressive to do 13 minutes of what's essentially sketch comedy on a single topic and not have it feel labored. Tellingly, the last couple minutes before the credits are some of the funniest stuff, which you would never expect to see with something of that length.

I wish they had played it completely straight-- there were a couple throwaway jokes that marred it just a bit and dented my suspension of disbelief. The lower thirds making jokes about the scenes and characters, for instance, which didn't add much and ran counter to the dry tone that works so well for the narration, dialogue and acting.

But really it's very good. In particular, I don't know why, but I laughed hardest at the newspaper clippings from the activist. Thanks for this!

This is moral relativism and political correctness run amok, typical of socialists and scotch or scotsi or whatever the hell you call those kilt-wearing bastards, just what I'd expect from metafilter because no one is responsible for themselves here, oh no, let's all feel sad for those people who can't be bothered to get off the damn couch and exercise some of that lard off their lazy asses or that snot-nosed kid at Burger King who won't put the fries in a separate bag even though I make a point of explaining to him every time that I'm the customer and it's his job to make me happy and if I wanted each item of my order in a different bag, it's his fucking job to do it because customers like me are the reason he has that cushy job handing people their food, not like he's doing real work, having to deal with asshole vendors on the phone eight hours a day like I do.

No, it's a disease, it's "genetic", all those assholes that plague my life, I'm supposed to feel sorry for them because it has to do with some chemical in the brain LNA that I've never heard of that's probably some bullshit that a tenured so-called "professor" invented to bilk some more grant money out of taxpayers like me? Yeah, right. You know how those people are. It's always society this and science that and it's wrong to blame people for the moronic things they do, it's wrong to say that if their life sucks and they're unhappy, it's their own goddamn fault for being the people they are and doing the things they do. Take some fucking responsibility, for chrissakes! It's those people who are ruining this society and making my life miserable, those assholes and the people who let them get away with it.

That couple in the video with the asshole kid — some people should be sterilized so they don't reproduce. The asshole is their fault, letting the little shit run around, doing whatever he wants. You can be sure that my son isn't an asshole, no matter what that whiny teacher says, he's learned to be respectful or he gets the back of my hand. That little asshole boy in the video just needs some discipline, not "treatment" or "medicine".

You don't need any fancy test, I can tell you if someone is an asshole within two minutes of meeting them. Does their hair look like they need to comb it? Asshole. Do they smile in that way that says "I'm soooo much smarter than you because I went to some fancy school" or "I'm soooo much better than you because I recycle and listen to whiny music"? Asshole. Basically, everyone I know or meet is an asshole. It wasn't like this when I was young, it's the schools, the schools and that asshole teachers union which ruined them.

I'm sure this thread is going to be full of people saying how interesting the video was, how someday there will be a medicine to cure assholeness. That's bullshit, the only cure for being an asshole is for you people to grow up and quit making excuses for yourselves, like me.

Were you born an asshole?
Or did you work at it all your life?
Either way it worked out fine,
'Cause you're an asshole tonight...
