That letter was hilarious-

Did he just say "maybe you should try to be a better son"? Not cool, Chase. Not cool.

Well, he did lie under oath at his father's parole hearing in an effort to keep him in prison and then cause his father to violate parole and be re-incarcerated. He's kind of a shitty son.

I would like to imagine a world in which all adult communication looks like this.

Maybe I should start out by living the future I want to happen. So let me rephrase.

Dear MetaFilter. I like letters. They are fun to read. I wish people would send more letters.

I have seen about 5 episodes of ...Sunny in Philadelphia and that is enough to know that everyone on that show is a horrible person. They are horrible in very funny ways, but absolutely horrible. Undoubtedly, Mac is a horrible son and Mac's dad is a horrible dad.

Yeah, if you're going to say "you should try to be a better son" to anyone, it's basically a toss-up between Mac and Oedipus.

Undoubtedly, Mac is a horrible son and Mac's dad is a horrible dad.

Amazingly, despite being the sort of father who would break into houses on Christmas morning with his child in tow, Mac's dad is one of the more sympathetic characters on the show.

Boy, Chase Utley really seems to be a good guy. He's someone you bump into here and there in Philly, always kind, always pleasant.

Copronymus: I think Rickety Cricket is the more sympathetic character. Despite his changes over the past couple of seasons, IIRC Mac's dad actually did threaten to murder Mac and Charley if they didn't smuggle heroin into prison for him.

Not with that gorilla mask, he's not.

Cricket seems more pitiable than sympathetic. The man is definitely the cause of his own downfall. You fall in love with a bird, what do you expect?

My problem with Cricket is mostly that I find it unpleasant whenever he's on screen. Not McPoyle-level unpleasant, but he generally detracts from my enjoyment of the show.

Mac is a pretty good son to his friends' moms...

Oh, and Carmen is probably the most likeable recurring character on the show.

Charlie was sympathetic*, albeit not someone I would like to spend tons of time around, until the episode where he dates the rich girl. Why you gotta break my heart, Charlie?

*at least compared to the rest of the Gang.

Carmen is also one of the only characters well-adjusted enough to get out of the gang's gravitational pull and have something like a happy ending.

I love how Chase got the same stickers for the bottom of his letter as Mac had on his. Nice touch.

I completely agree. Charlie seemed like the only redeemable one in the gang, until that season.

Only slightly relevant, yet obligatory Kitten Mittons video. I could watch that cat fall off the table forever. Meee-yow.

Yeah, the stickers were the crowning moment of heartwarming here.
