Susie Sie is a film artist who eschews computer effects and 3D modeling for capturing the dreamlike beauty of real objects. CYMATICS is her latest work, using lycopodium powder, a speaker, and macro photography. Other works include SILK, BLACK, Ampersand and EMERGENCE. Recommended with headphones and in full-screen mode.

Fungus spores are sadly under-represented in the world of abstract videos.

"They know! I told you - they'd find a way through, this proves it."
"THEY KNOW NOTHING. THIS IS ART. THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE."
"But they do! They have found every one of the portals! They were the last ones!"
"IT'S JUST ART - DONE WITH A CAMERA. THEY ARE STILL BOUND TO THEIR SLICE."
"You are wrong! And when they discover the rest of us, the rift it causes will be enormous."
'GO BACK TO YOUR UNIT. THIS IS NOTHING."

OK, serious derail question:

Does lycopodium powder really flash that much better? And how is it better - brighter per gram, faster flash, what?

I ask because powder of almost anything will flash pretty nicely. Non-dairy creamer was a favorite in the college lunch room, but iron filings will do the trick as well.

Crazy. Just sent an email to a bunch of my Berlin artist friends asking them to seek her out. Come on Metafilter an hour later and here she is. This work is gorgeous.

OK, not so serious derail question:
Does she get her name from Siouxsie Sioux?
I skipped the websites and I didn't see anything.
